The councilors of the new legislature of Dénia: the new faces and those who say goodbye

04 June 2023 - 05: 40

Whoever governs, the new Dénia legislature will begin in two weeks. The city council will open its doors for the new inauguration, in which many new faces will occupy seats that have been left empty.

In the midst of so much change, it is worth remembering those who leave the municipal council and those who are part of it for the first time. There are also those who return after a time away. These are the novelties and absences of the new legislature of Dénia:

PSPV

New arrivals

Marta Gasco

He graduated in Computer Engineering and since 1999 lives in Dénia. She has actively participated in the sport of the city, being a coach of the volleyball club and being part of the Dénia Rowing Club. She is just as involved in the city parties, being part of the filà Almogàvers, even becoming treasurer of the FEMMICC. She has also collaborated with Caritas and undertaken other humanitarian projects.

Absences

Maite Pérez Conejero

She has been this last legislature as the third deputy mayor and councilor for Ecological Transition. As the head of the area, she has managed to agree on the defendant and millionaire new garbage contract in Dénia. A highly applauded feat within the party. In addition, with her as mayoress, La Xara has finally opened the doors of the public school that has put an end to years of barracks. Although she leaves the Dénia City Council, she will surely repeat as mayor of EATIM.

Óscar Mengual

Over the years, he has been one of the most visible faces of the formation for being the Councilor for Fiestas and Linguistic Normalization. His main area, Fiestas, was hit hard by COVID but he did a commendable job adapting the celebrations, presenting alternative programs when the situation was dark and uncertain. In addition, he has served as a provincial deputy and was general secretary of the PSPV in the Marina Alta until the 2022.

Elisabet Cardona

During the COVID legislature, he was in charge of the Senior Policies area, which is especially sensitive during the pandemic. In addition, he has dealt with the protests of the workers of the Santa Llúcia residence, reaching agreements that finally avoided the strike.

Juan Sapena

He is the only Socialist councilor from the last legislature who will not repeat despite appearing again on the list. He was in eleventh position, so a better PSPV result was required for him to return to City Hall. He has been in charge of the Youth Department since 2021, entering the government in the middle of the legislature after the resignation of Cristina Morera.

PP

New arrivals

Pepa Font

Pepa Font returns to the political front line after resting during the last legislature, and he does so to lead the new project of the PP with which he has managed to expand the representation to seven councillors. Font is a specialist in clinical analysis laboratories, graduated in Pharmacy from the University of Valencia. In addition, she is closely linked to sports in the city, specifically basketball due to her experience as a player, becoming founder and first president of the Dénia Básquet in 1996-1998 and in 2007-2015.

However, if he stands out, it is because of his extensive political experience. He founded and led the independent Center Unificat party, with which he contested the City Council in three legislatures. Before that, she was a councilor with the Popular Party, from 1999 to 2003. Between 2008 and 2015, she was First Deputy Mayor, as well as responsible for areas as important as Urban Planning, Sports, Culture or Tourism. She was also the promoter of Dénia Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO.

Juan Carlos Signes

Another political veteran and Font confidante: Juan Carlos Signes. He is a person closely linked to sports in the city, becoming captain of the CD Dénia. He has been the popular bet for the sports project during the candidacy, occupying the number three position on the list.

Marian Molto

Marian Moltó was number four on the PP list. The training highlights his great knowledge of the Municipal Market.

Stephen Chornet

Esteban Chornet, an old connoisseur of Dianense politics, enters after occupying the number five position on Font's list. He joins the Pepa Font project "from the consensus and responsibility that characterize him."

Ygarza Plains

Dental hygienist and, recently, named fallera mayor of the fails Center. Llanos Ygarza was number six on the list.

Carlos Barona

Carlos Barona is a Dianense lawyer, very involved with the social entities of the city. For this reason he has headed the social program that Font has presented during the candidacy.

Absences

María Mut

María Mut She was the popular leader during the legislature that is ending, throwing on her back all the hard work that it took to resist with a party that was going through its worst moment in the whole country. She achieved several unanimous agreements, being she the person who devised the Municipal Debate, a project that was very well received and that Grimalt defended that she would stay forever.

The formation dispensed with it for this legislature in bad ways, according to Mut, which He did not hesitate to criticize openly and openly in his farewell press conference, assuring that neither Font counted on her at any time nor did she want to work with her substitute.

Eva Catalá

She was the popular number three of the last legislature and a trusted person of María Mut. Although Pepa Font kept her on her team, she placed her in twelfth position on the list, which almost certainly left her out of the City Council. As has happened.

Compromís

New arrivals

María José García

Not an unknown face inside or outside Compromís, formation in which he has been gaining notoriety in recent years. She is linked to the feminist movement, since 2021 she has been the regional secretary and territorial representative in the national executive of Més-Compromís. She is 46 years old. She graduated in Social Graduate from the University of Valencia, she works as a manager in a renewable energy administration department. She is co-founder of an environmental education company that fights for the preservation of birds and the environment. She is linked to the Fallas festival, where she has held positions of secretary, treasurer and Fallera Mayor 2011 of a commission.

Valen Alcala

One of the great young promises of Compromís. Valen is 29 years old and is a product designer and graphic designer from the EASD of Valencia. She currently works as a graphic designer and brand identity coordinator in the Design and Marketing Department of Clave Dénia (Ale-Hop). Passionate about Fallas, who lives from a point of view of design, molding and Valencian culture. Thus, he is part of a Fallas commission in which he has been in charge of the artistic and cultural part. Sports fan and practicing it in the environment, he is currently part of Dénia Corre.

Absences

Eva Round

He was the right hand of Rafa Carrió in the last legislature. According to the statement issued by the formation to announce the absence of Ronda, the still councilor of Compromís was not included in the list "for professional and personal reasons", but they have affirmed that she will continue "giving us all her support, knowledge and experience".

Vicent Crespo

Veteran face in the ranks of Compromís, who moved away from the top of the list in these elections, remaining fifth, for which reason he has not managed to repeat as councilor. He is a Construction Technician (GIPE) from the Málaga Polytechnic and, although he is currently retired, he has been the manager of the Crespo-Espí construction company for more than 40 years. Linked to the cultural, sports and festive world of the municipality, he has been president of the AMMIC (former Association of Moors and Christians), and was co-founder and president of the Valencian Pilota Club and the Association of the Hermitage of Sant Joan and the Rondalla Vent Pols i Pua. He was councilor for Sports in the City Council in the 2015-2019 legislature, and councilor for Compromís in the opposition in the legislature that is ending.

Vox

New arrivals

Felix Round

The far-right party enters the Dénia City Council for the first time, although with only one councilor. Thus, his spokesman, Félix Redondo, will occupy his long-awaited chair after failing to reach it in the 2019 elections, where he was running for the first time as Vox number one in the city. In any case, he is not new to politics, since he had already been a member of the Popular Party years before.

Ciudadanos

Absences

Susana Mut

Leader of Citizens during the legislature that ends. He assumed responsibility after leaving him on the same election night in 2019, who was then the party's mayoral candidate. She has been very active, along with his group, throughout the legislature. With a more centrist cut, yes. Closer to the original Citizens. Her proposals in various areas, such as Animal Welfare, were more progressive than those of PSPV and Compromís (a major pending issue for these).

He reached understandings with all formations. In the same way, she has been one of the great speakers of this legislature although she has not taken advantage of it more, prevailing, for example, in the debate of the electoral campaign of Radio Dénia to practically all the other candidates. However, she has punished the situation of her party at the national level and her entire group has disappeared from the consistory.

Stephanie Schwamb

Mut's right hand since 2019. A very active councilor in each plenary session held by the Dénia City Council, with interventions along the lines of her spokesperson. Despite the fact that her work was correct in the last four years, she went on to occupy position three in the last candidacy. Although having kept her two would not have allowed him to return to the consistory either.

Comments
  1. Jose Luis says:

It is somewhat curious that the elected councilor of Vox is the only one that moves the editor of the article to assign it an ideological qualification, “…the far-right party…”. It seems that the rest of the parties either have not defined their position on the political/ideological scene, or it is not worth reminding readers of what it is.
I have neither voted for Vox nor do I share its political ideology, but I think that like all parties, out of respect for the citizens they represent, the editor of a media outlet deserves equal treatment, if he claims to be fair and independent in the information that it offers to its readers, or at least to pretend to be.

    • Jose S. Round says:

It is the editorial line of this medium. It says little in its favor, we have reached the institutions. in order to bring fresh air and stop being a mournful party, we will keep in touch
