10 July 2023 - 12: 35
  •  "The Sella Open will be one of the most important LET tournaments, outside of the majors" (Alexandra Armas, CEO of LET)
  •  "It is a demanding course, which will put the best golfers in the world to the test" (Joao Pinto, LET tournament director)

The field of La Sella Golf will host, from July 20 to 23, the next stop of the Ladies European Tour in Spain. La Sella Open Not only does it promise to attract the best players in the professional ranking to Spanish soil, but it comes with the great incentive of being the women's golf tournament with the largest prize pool in the history of our country.

For this important appointment, the LET wanted to select a field to match. As Joao Paulo Pinto, tournament director for the women's European tour, says, “It's not only impressive, but it also represents an interesting challenge for the best players on the tour. We know it will be a demanding course, one that will put the best female golfers in the world to the test."

A demanding, sustainable and exceptionally beautiful route

Designed by José María Olazábal, La Sella It has 27 holes, standing out as the most extensive course on the Costa Blanca and as one of the reference circuits in the Valencian Community and in Spain. In recent years, La Sella has undertaken an ambitious renovation of its field, which has equipped it with facilities more technological, sustainable and competitive. These advances have managed to increase the already recognized reputation of La Sella within Spanish and European golf, consolidating it as a benchmark at a technical and sustainable level.

The course has been taken care of down to the last detail to host a tournament of the highest professional level. As the head greenkeeper of La Sella Golf, Jimena Blanco, «we work daily in the management and improvement of the environmental aspects that are in our hands. In La Sella We have more than 2.000 species and varieties of native trees. We have implanted sustainable grass varieties that consume little water, few fertilizers and few phytosanitary products. And we irrigate with water from the Dénia treatment plant, water that if we did not use and filter previously through the root system of our grass, it would go directly to the sea.

La Sella Golf has contributed for many years to the growth of golf in our country, hosting tournaments of the highest level. Now, at the dawn of a new era, "the highly competitive international LET players will be truly impressed by the world-class facilities at La Sella Resort and they are looking forward to having the opportunity to play on this prestigious course”, comments the head of the Ladies European Tour, Alexandra Armas, who adds that, in addition, «La Sella Open It is going to be a decisive moment in the LET in 2023, arriving in the qualifying period for the European team of the Solheim cup and in the middle of the Race to Costa del Sol».

A historic tournament "for them"

La Sella Open It was born with the vocation of providing professional golf players with relevant tournaments and with important prizes, which allow them to continue competing and help to reduce the differences in the social and economic recognition of women athletes in relation to men.

The prize of 1.000.000€ is a firm sign of the commitment of both La Sella and the Spanish Golf Federation and Valencian Golf Federation, to promote women's golf and promote opportunities for athletes, in a tournament that has already been called among local golfers as "a tournament for them".

La Sella shows its support for women in the golf sector also with the fact that it is one of the few courses whose greenkeeper is a woman. As Jimena Blanco explains, “the world of lawn maintenance on sports surfaces is largely dominated by men. We are very few women who dedicate ourselves to it; although, luckily, this is changing and more and more women decide to dedicate themselves to this profession and more men decide to give us the first opportunities». In this regard, the person responsible for the maintenance of the field of La Sella puts on the table that "their own institutions, such as the Federation, the Greenkeepers Association and the golf courses, must encourage and visualize the female presence.

First level tourist destination

La Sella Golf It is located in one of the best tourist and golf destinations in Europe. the region of La Marina Alta and its capital, Dénia, offer an idyllic setting in which to enjoy this exciting sport, with a wide selection of golf courses high quality and international recognition, offering exciting challenges and impressive panoramic views.
In addition, Dénia has a touristic infrastructure of first level, with exclusive hotels, resorts and residential offer. Its excellent climate throughout the year, its natural Mediterranean beauty and its wide range of leisure, culture, gastronomy and sports, position this region as a privileged destination.

An idea ratified by the LET tournament director, joao paulo pinto, when affirming that «together with its incredible route, the five-star hotel with a spa, gym, swimming pool and several restaurants make La Sella GolfWithout a doubt, one of the best tourist and golf destinations in Europe»
