The nights of the best jazz return in Torrecremada with the ninth edition of the Dénia Jazz Festival

The long-awaited Dénia Jazz Festival will once again delight music lovers with four exciting nights of jazz at Parc de Torrecremada. On Thursdays, August 3, 10, 17 and 24, this emblematic space will be filled with rhythm and unique melodies to enjoy an unforgettable musical experience.

In a press conference held today, July 19, the Councilor for Culture, Raúl García de la Reina, together with the musician Enric Peidro, has presented the program of the Dénia Jazz Festival 2023. The councilor has highlighted that this musical event has been consolidated and enriched with the passing of the editions, becoming an unmissable event for music lovers and fans of music. jazz. Thus, the musical event returns with performances by Thomas Kretzschmar Quartet, Tanja Filipovic, International Classic Jazz All Stars and Judith Owen & Her Gentlemen Callers.

Peidro, as director of the event, has highlighted that the festival "seeks to maintain the intimate air of a concert for people who really like jazz music" that tries to give space to "musicians who have all the quality, but do not they enter festivals that prioritize more mass shows ». He has also commented that they try to make the festival "as popular as possible" by making it affordable for the general public.

What time will they be and what price will the concerts have?

All concerts will take place at 22:30 hours and the opening of the venue will be at 20:45 p.m. on the street of the journalist Ricardo Ortega. Advance tickets will cost $15, while at the box office they will rise to 17 euros.

Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.notikumi.com and in person at the Ale Hop stores (Marqués de Campo and Centro Comercial Portal de la Marina) and in the Dénia Public Library (Calle de Patricio Ferrándiz, 16).

August 3 - Thomas Kretzchmar Quartet

The festival will start with the French violinist Thomas Kretzschmar with his quartet. The Nimes artist has collaborated with figures such as Stochelo Rosenberg, Bireli Lagrene, Angolo Debarre, Humberto Ríos or Tchavolo Schmitt and his projection is international.

August 10 - Tanja Filipovic

The second night you can enjoy the voice of the Serbian singer Tanja Filipovic, resident in Ganz (Austria), supported by the trio of musicians who usually accompany her in her performances. At just 23 years old, critics have highlighted the virtuosity of her voice, her vocal technique and her natural ability to improvise.

August 17 - International Classic Jazz All Stars

Halfway through the festival will be dedicated to the American musician and composer George Gerswhin. The International Classic Jazz All Stars, by saxophonist Enric Peidro, will pay tribute to the renowned musician with A night with George Gerswin. This proposal is genuine from the festival and has the intention of remembering the great names of jazz music, as was done last year with the tribute to Duke Ellington.

At the International Classic Jazz All Stars we find musicians with a great professional career such as the Danish drummer Martin Andersen, the Catalan double bassist Queralt Camps, the French trombonist Samuel Marthé, the British trumpeter Paul Evans or the Valencian vibraphonist Arturo Serra.

August 24 - Judith Owen & Her Gentlemen Callers

The festival will be closed by the band Judith Owen & Her Gentlemen Callers, who are on a European tour. Residents of New Orleans (United States), their music is greatly influenced by vocalists such as Peggy Lee, Pearl Bailey, Blossom Dearie, Julie London or Dinah Washington.

In addition, its set design recalls the great productions of Broadway musicals and shows, with a touch Black. The singer, of Welsh origin, offers a repertoire that mixes jazz, swing and blues, which has led her to collaborate with figures from the world of jazz such as Jason Marsalis, Nicholas Payton and Donald Harrison, among others. Among the musicians in her band (Her Gentlemen Callers) the Australian guitarist Dave Bleckhorn stands out.
