Puig highlights 'L'Escaldà de la Pansa' as heritage of Valencians beyond the provincial borders

Jesús Pobre dressed up to celebrate with his neighbors that L'Escaldà de la Pansa has been declared an Intangible Cultural Interest (BIC) by the Consell Valencià de Cultura. And he did it with an institutional act that faced the rain but had the support of neighbors from across the region.

For the first time in its 20-year history, the EATIM received a visit from the President of the Generalitat. Ximo Puig presided over the event, highlighting this tradition as "thread of a Valencian collective identity". Puig stressed that 'L'Escaldà' is heritage "of all Valencians and Valencians" and, above all, of all the regions that keep it alive and that "Unite beyond provincial borders".

He also said that 'L'Escaldà' constitutes "One of the great references of Valencian culture", while advocating to take advantage of culture as "future platform".

In this sense, Puig pointed out that the declaration constitutes "a contribution of a reputational nature" and stressed the importance of using reputation as a tool to achieve "a tourist and proper economic relaunch" since the sector of the pansa is "live heritage, not simply historical".

Mayor Jesús Pobre, Javier Scotto, thanked the President for his visit at this event and highlighted the important work carried out by institutions, neighbors, experts, professionals and passionate about L'Escaldà who have worked in this denomination.

Scotto highlighted three things about this BIC: the nature of immaterial, the condition of tradition and the character of the people. For Scotto, L'Escaldà goes beyond a party: it is a way of being and living.

Then the writer of Xàbia Pepa Guardiola, who recounted the memories of L'Escaldà in the Marina Alta.

After it, the representatives of the Junta Veïnal de Jesús Pobre and the Civic Association Massarrojos spoke. Roll of l'Ametler, collaborators in the promotion of L'Escaldà as BIC.

President Ximo Puig closed the ceremony with his words, praising the great effort made by all the entities involved, which have made Jesus Pobre's dream come true.
