Pepa Font (PP) charges against one of the latest announcements from the Dénia City Council: "We cannot mortgage the future of this city"

30 March 2023 - 11: 04

The mayoral candidate for the Party Denia, Pepa Font, has harshly criticized the last announcement of the City Council to build an institute in the port of the city. «It seems outrageous to me to propose an institute in the middle of the seafront. We cannot mortgage the future of this city”, Font pointed out.

"I have met with a multitude of social, economic and business representatives and we all agree that this location is a real mistake," says the popular one. "He called the Socialist Party and your candidate, Mr Grimalt, for reflection. We must agree among all the political groups on a sensible location. I agree to propose an educational center in the city, but not the full sea front”, he pointed out.

In other words, Denia does not want to be a city open to tourism. Those who fill restaurants and stores don't care if they come. That it is those who reside all year round who are able to maintain business. That Gastronomic City is only for those at home. Please, see the data, the numbers and if you want to go deeper, ask merchants, restaurants, tour operators, market stalls, service companies, … etc. And by the way, those who have a second residence in Denia also pay municipal and regional taxes, maintenance services... etc. in addition to daily purchases in the area. Regarding a new industry model, do you see Denia with an industrial future competing with Barcelona and the periphery, Valencia, Madrid, Valladolid...etc.?
It is very good to facilitate and support training and if it is in naval matters, I applaud it, in fact there is a worldwide deficit among those who later embark, and in most cases they emigrate as in many other professions of Engineering, Medicine and else.
To finish, I repeat that I applaud the initiatives to provide specialized training to young people, but that does not imply that the convenience of where the center is located should not be considered, looking at the general interest.
    regards

How annoying is the idea of building a training center in the professional maritime sector! The fear that exists in training and creating a better future for the population is impressive. Who says to turn your back on Tourism? Who says of turning Denia into an Industrial zone? For that, factories are needed and we are talking about a Training Center... and do not come saying that you have to look at the general interest, when the only thing that worries you is the tourists and selling the whole society to Tourism by going over the rights of the citizens of Denia. The training and capacity for a better economic future for the population as a whole annoys them if that building were for an Auditorium they would applaud with their ears.

  2. Pink says:

The fear generated by the construction of a Study Center for the population in a sector other than tourism is impressive. Don't you want them to train in new professions to generate wealth for Denia throughout the year? It seems not, it seems that they prefer to depend solely and solely on Tourism with precarious, seasonal jobs, without contracts and poorly paid... they call that "Wealth". Well, I prefer companies with year-round contracts for well-paid professional jobs. After that, I'll go spend money in restaurants and bars thanks to my salary.

    • Alf says:

Dear Rose. I have not seen rejections in setting up a Vocational Training center, what is being discussed is the opportunity of the location. If you look at the photographs that they have provided of how it would look, possibly conflicting opinions can be understood. There are other alternatives, which as soon as they are analyzed would serve to achieve the objective without distorting the area.
      regards

      • Pink says:

Dear Alf there is rejection read the comments. They excuse it by claiming that it is not the place but none endorse and applaud the economic opening training idea because that is what is important, not the building, it is the idea and what it means for the population of Denia.

  3. Alf says:

It is not about giving or taking away reasons for the mere fact of being a supporter or not of a political party.

The esplanade is already saturated enough with the expansions of the activity of the dry dock.
The chosen location does not seem appropriate. It is mixing “churras with merinas”.
That is an area of tourist interest, by the way, that a good part of the collection that is made is as a consequence of the restoration and the traffic of visitors, without them, what happens to be Denia? What new offer would you offer?
Those who visit every day in vacation times and others, the population are in a good % those who make it possible to maintain the offer for almost a semester. Without them, what businesses would still be open? the so famous Red Shrimp among others, would you stay in Denia? for whom?. Who of all of us is willing to hire staff and pay salaries, contributions... etc. without clients a high % of the days? Businesses also pay their taxes and thanks to these a part of the investments can be made in the city and give life and light to it.

    Again, reflection.
It should not be so difficult, take a map of Denia, sit down and analyze what things are necessary and where they have to be applied, so that it can become a modern, beautiful, articulated and not old city, in facades, sidewalks, investments... etc. . Now, make no mistake, it's not.
Not even being a city "of thought" will solve the problems of citizens
Nor the memories of a century ago.
Nor bring the buses to a station, to a parking lot in the area of the road (jamming the circulation even more)
Not even making a parking lot on top of the tracks. Good lump.
Nor cover what a more important maritime city has, the possibility of seeing the sea, with the construction of a building to take students. It will be interesting to see the mix of tourists, locals and young people in the immediate vicinity. Or a building without activity as an industrial warehouse in the summer.
There are issues that affect everyone and that make a city evolve in parallel with its inhabitants, with its activity, who are ultimately the ones that have to work for.
"Whoever has ears, let him hear." Please analyze the population in one view and you will see abandoned places, within it that have been damaging the image of Denia for years.

  4. Marieta says:

I repropose the site of the former Health Center of the Social Security of Marques de Campo, to make Public Centers, of Public Service, in the Center of Denia, accessible to all

  5. M. Carmen says:

I consider that Ignacio has wonderfully explained what any city, and also Dénia, needs: Education. Young people need educational alternatives and maritime studies are exactly that, an alternative that opens a new door to the personal and professional development of a youth that often cannot develop their concerns due to lack of resources. It is true that there are places (Academies) in Dénia where maritime studies can be carried out, but privately and at a cost that not all our young people can afford. Is that what bothers Pepa Font? Could it be that Pepa Font, and therefore the PP, are bothered by the fact that there are Public Centers available to all young people (and not so young) in Dénia?

    • Omniway says:

I think you mix things up.
Pepa Font only does not agree that constructions are made in that area for an institute. In everything else yes.
I personally, who do not belong to any party but I am from Dénia of many generations, do not think it is an appropriate place either. Because it is close to the sea is not a justification for a maritime school to be built there. It's like sending them to study agricultural engineering in the orchard.
But in the end they will do the barbarity that occurs to them, like the third institute and the Joan Fuster pavilion, which could have been done together and in a place closer to the students and not in the middle of a residential area.

      • Luis says:

Well, it would be his thing too, a Center for Agricultural Studies in the field, theory and practice. Here we have totally forgotten countryside and sea and that is jobs, economy and raising the social and economic level of the population. What if all you want is to put a building there? Why not one that has a pleasant architecture and that also offers an essential service such as education to Dianenses and students who come from abroad?

    • Dani says:

Maritime studies can be done with a creama course.
      No center is needed.

    • Jopelin says:

Pepa Font, the only thing that does not agree is with the chosen place thinking about future situations.
In addition, with this Town Hall, you have to be careful with your great ideas, don't go to the bus station, the buses don't fit, and to urinate you have to go to the bar (at the station), the one on the corner

      • Juan says:

Of course, he does not agree with the place, although he prefers to build another expensive and useless Gurtelian tome...... what they do not want is for tourists to see that we also study here, we work, that there is a society beyond the tourism sector and that tourists only they are visitors, not the Kings of the Park who come here to give us the peanuts to eat. Encourage work, companies beyond the tourism sector, that's what you have to do, that's the future...

  6. Ignacio says:

What does Pepa Font want? That they don't study? What are not formed? That they do not contribute to the economy in Denia by creating companies and jobs in other sectors? And yes, the location is perfect because the training sector is precisely the Maritime sector. Where do you think they will do their internship? With paper boats in a bathtub? Are you afraid that tourists will discover a Denia where you live, study and work? What mortgages the future of Denia, its youth and society is the lack of work, job opportunities, business creation and employment beyond Tourism and real estate speculation, which is the only thing these well-maintained so-called "politicians" understand. Proud would have to feel to be able to offer adequate training facilities and that tourists and foreigners see them, education, evolution and wealth.

  7. Dani says:

Pepa Font criticizes to make her another barbarism: The Bus Station.
They should take the PP and the PSOE and make them both illegal.
What you have to do in the port is the Auditorium Theater to complete the cultural offer it offers.
Ana Kringe already wanted to do it.
The “La Nau” project that he abandoned.
El Mollet d'Espanya is the best place to do the Theatre.
Because that is what Dénia needs:
    A good operetta.
    Dénia is a tourist city.
From the Democratic Left we are going to continue fighting for a better country.
Neither PP is worth, nor Grimalt, nor Gent de Denia, nor Compromis, nor the King of Spain.
    Only good ideas are worth.

    • Ignacio says:

Don't you want more jobs to exist beyond Tourism? This Center would be the beginning. An Opera? An auditorium? Would you like Calatrava? Another Shopping Center that would kill commerce and the social life of Denia? All that smells like pufff pepero Gurteliano.

      • Dani says:

Dénia needs a Theater Auditorium is a tourist city.
And what better place than the port.
We cannot be with a Social Center, Dénia is already very big

        • Luis says:

The tourists who come do not come for an Auditorium Theatre. They are not going to step on it, nor are they interested. So don't sell it as a tourist necessity.

    • Marieta says:

Seriously proposals for postcards and not for citizens?

      • pituca says:

The location is criticized, not the need. I can think of many better locations, such as the one on Calle Miguel Hernández, in front of Mercadona. Denia needs parking, because in summer it exceeds 150.000 inhabitants, and many come to that area, to take the boat, to walk around the city. That also interests the Dianenses, because it is wealth for the city. Being able to have everything, I do not understand the awkwardness of the location.

        • Risa says:

Population? They will be visitors, tourists, they do not live here and many of those who "walk around" do so finding everything closed, so what "wealth" do they leave behind? Although drinking two Coca-Cola's is generating wealth? What a level Pituca!
