This morning the Councilor for Culture of the Dénia City Council, Raúl David García, the director of Marina Dénia, Gabriel Martínez and the sculptor and president of the jury, Toni Marí have presented the prizes to the winners of the III edition of the exhibition “Sculptures in front of Sea".
“The show has had a lot of diffusion, both nationally and internationally. We are in the prelude to an exhibition of works that is going to reach relevant dimensions, not only for our region, but that will transcend beyond. The outlook is very optimistic. I want to thank the Dénia City Council for their support and constant promotion of culture and all those who sit at this table today for the work they do so that this event becomes great year after year ”, Gabriel Martínez pointed out.
The first prize of this edition, 1.500 euros, has been for Pedro Quesada and his sculpture “Niña en la playa”. The second prize, 1.000 euros, for Kike Gordillo and his “Ítaca” and the third prize, 500 euros, for Tomás Sivera and his work “Los ojos del mar”. The Department of Culture of the City of Dénia and Marina Dénia have also awarded three honorable mentions for the works of Julio Palacios, Amparo Mata and Juan Caravaca.
Toni Marí wanted to thank, first of all, “the artists because without them this would not be possible. But also to the City Council of Dénia, the members of the jury and Marina Dénia, for their support. It was very difficult to make the decision and that is why this year we have created three special mentions. I am proud of the artists and that year after year they participate in this unique space. I wait for you next year ”.
For his part, Nicolás Merle, member of the jury, said that “this is the third edition and here we already see a qualitative leap, you have a magnificent catalog and video. Sculptors must be pampered a lot as they represent a mainstay of culture, which must remain in difficult times. As one of the exhibited works "Ithaca" expresses, we have to rediscover everything after the pandemic we are experiencing ". Modesto Marí, has pointed out that “the show has been very good for the city and has managed to become one more exhibition hall. The exhibition has been very complete at all levels and it has not been easy to agree ”.
For his part, the Councilor for Culture has commented that “despite the months that the pandemic has made us lose, the support of the Dénia City Council has made this exhibition get underway. I have loved the commitment to small sculptures. ”.
