One of the most deeply rooted traditions in our society is assisting the place where our loved ones rest. All 1 November, our country cemeteries are filled with visitors to pay homage to those dear people who came before us, although some still impose them too much respect, if not fear. It is the place where the remains of our loved ones, where we can go to mourn, talk to them or just find some peace in the middle of the madding crowd, inviting reflection and meditation. But not only that. Also are spaces filled with culture and stories to discover. A place full of small treasures where you can find how a people, what has been and what evolution mainly experienced.

The so-called "cemetery tourism" is slowly making its way into. Even the Council of Europe recognized 2013 the European Cemeteries Route, cementeriesroute.eu, which now make up almost a hundred graveyards scattered 16 European countries, including those found 22 Spaniards, including the Municipal Cemetery of Valencia and San Antonio Abad cemetery in Alcoy.

This program has aids for its conservation and enhancement, promoting the restoration of artistic and historical elements, providing an itinerary that not only offers a route to visit, but a tool for knowledge and continuous research, being the starting point of other initiatives of study and promotion, such as congresses, exhibitions, etc ... apart from the training and awareness activities promoted in the school environment incorporating it in a dynamic and pedagogical way to their cultural visits

In this sense, Dénia should be no different. Municipal Cemetery is today one of the most emblematic point of our city and gradually, with increasing urban growth, is incorporated into our urban landscape. The proximity to urban centers is causing their visit is conducted more frequently and most wandering, without using any means of transport.

That has not been accompanied by the growth of infrastructure around it, which implies a certain danger to the large number of pedestrians throughout the year, and especially during this time, come to our Municipal Cemetery, accompanied by a lack overwhelming parking spaces. Therefore he joined projects Plan Trust urbanization of the entrances to the Municipal Cemetery, including enabling sidewalks and lighting throughout the stretch of Madrigueres Sud. For the first time in many years, a real project to improve the environment proposed Cemetery.

Another treasure available to our city, and urban needs a review by the General Plan is the English Cemetery. It should begin to articulate how to incorporate the Municipal Heritage to ensure their preservation and inclusion within the cultural routes of our city, industry symbol S.XIX Raisin in our city.

Certain. To go to the municipal cemetery is to make a "way of the cross". The state of that road is unfortunate, which not only leads to the cemetery but also to a shopping center, a special education center and a school. What sloppiness!
On the other hand, our municipal cemetery is not a reflection of the plural society of the XNUMXst century. It belongs to a past in which Spain was a great and "Catholic" nation. Today we coexist with other faiths, beliefs and cultures. Denia is a clear reflection: Catholics, Evangelicals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Muslims, Buddhists ... atheists, agnostics. The cemetery should be secular and tolerant of other religions, religious minorities and beliefs. For example: Why a Catholic chapel as soon as you enter? Couldn't this be a non-denominational room that accommodates people of other faiths?

Have you stopped to think that in his day, quite some, the English of Denia decided to have a separate cemetery? ¿Catholic authorities banned their day buried in the same cemetery Catholics and non-Catholics? Or was it rather Protestants who objected to it?
Well the story may be repeated as people of other faiths wish to die and be buried with dignity.
