HLA San Carlos presents its Sports Medicine Unit at Marina de Dénia

Hospital HLA San Carlos has presented today at the Marina and Tourist Marina de Denia its innovative and pioneering unit of sports medicine, unique in the area.

Doctor María Desamparados Marco, specialist in Internal Medicine and Medical Director of HLA San Carlos Office has assured that in this area there is no unit like the one "It is presented here today, in which we have a multidisciplinary unit that covers all the needs of the person who performs physical exercise or sport in any of its modalities or degree of intensity. Our department offers coverage to all needs such as cardiology, traumatology, physiotherapy or personalized nutrition ".

For his part, Francisco Clemente, sports doctor and coordinator of the new Sports Medicine Unit, explained that he is also one of the few doctors who has a specialty in underwater / hyperbaric medicine.

Clement recalled that "Only the sport of high competition has specialists, but for the vast majority of society no. Physical exercise is a great drug but it is not used well since it is not known to prescribe. Popular sport has increased in the province of Alicante of an incredible way. Dénia brings together all the characteristics and also adds water sports. There are more popular tests and that is where many problems can arise ".

The sports medicine unit has in its team with Toni Soler, who has explained that "Within the sports medicine team I take care of personal training. We do not focus only on high performance and we want to improve the quality of life of people who are now starting in sports. Focus also on the elderly and children , on how to adapt the training in both groups ".

The new unit of sports medicine has been especially recognized by athletes. In this sense, Emilio Irigoyen, president of the Marina Surf Club of Denia, commented that "It is very important to have medical support and guidance, especially for the prevention and recovery of possible injuries. This unit makes it easy for us to have all professionals at the same point".

The director of the Marina Deportivo y Turístico Marina de Dénia, Gabriel Martínez, pointed out that "The sport occupies a very important space in Marina de Dénia. Martinez has stressed that "We are a city and an eminently tourist region and the two factors that decide whether an area has quality tourism or not, are police and health security. San Carlos has made a very important decision to open a department of sports medicine. Each time people take care of themselves more and do more sports and this new department will be very important for everyone ".
