Dénia opposes the construction of an international school in Jesús Pobre

29 September 2017 - 08: 25

The City Council of Dénia, with the votes in favor of PSPV, Compromís, and the councilors not attached Álex Rodenkirchen and Julio Palacios, gave the approval to the report prepared by the municipal technicians that advises against the construction of an international school in the vicinity of Jesus Pobre.

This project contemplated a construction of something more than 9.000 square meters in a plot of 57.000 square meters near the EATIM, an international center with capacity of 900 students. The land on which we want to build is currently non-developable for agricultural protection, so it is necessary to request a file of Declaration of Community Interest (DIC) that would allow us to build on that parcel. This file is processed by the Generalitat Valenciana, but the City Council yesterday approved an unfavorable report to get this statement.

The promoter and the neighbors took the floor

This issue generated an intense debate in the plenary session, in which a representative of the company promoting the school and a representation of the local residents also spoke. The company representative was surprised by this unfavorable report, since the city council had previously issued a report favorable to the DIC statement. From the promoter they defend that it would not cause a great landscape impact or interfere in the area of the connector of the Natural Park Montgó.

On the other hand, the neighbors of the EATIM, who carried posters against the construction of the school, read a manifesto defending the essence of people living in Jesus Pobre and requesting to take into account the denial of the neighbors to this proposal that they branded "real estate operation dressed as an international school".

The project does not agree with the territorial model of Jesus Pobre

The councilor responsible for territory, Maria Josep Ripoll, defended the negative report prepared by the City Council because "it does not agree with the territorial model of Jesús Pobre" and is "out of scale". He also recalled that, if the DIC is granted, it would be valid for 30 years, and this project is not reversible, while he considered the environmental and landscape impact that this project would entail.

councilman Javier Scotto He took the floor as Mayor of the EATIM, supporting his neighbors by considering that this project does not respond to the idiosyncrasy of Jesús Pobre because, among other things, the forecast of people would exceed the number of inhabitants of the EATIM. Scotto recalled that this project "seriously undermines landscape integration" and advocated that the will of the entity's neighbors, contrary to this project, be respected.

Opposition tension

The non-attached mayor Alex Rodenkirchen considered that it is a "interesting project" which has been widely debated in the Dénia circle, although they advocate looking for an alternative to the location because they consider it a project "not to be missed".

In this sense also the Councilor for Citizens Sergio Benito, who regretted that the government team had not sat down with the developer to look for an alternative location. The mayor of the orange formation made a long review of the history of this project and concluded by stating that "there has been no intention of reaching an agreement".

For its part, Pepa Font, of GDCU, called for the holding of a referendum in Jesus Pobre to know the opinion of the neighbors "with the commitment to endorse what comes out of the consultation". María Mut, the PP, was interested in the moment in which the City Council ignored the favorable report of the Department, a question that did not get a response from the government team.

Finally the plenary approved the report, a document that does not advise the construction of the international school in that plot and which will now be sent to the Consellería, the body responsible for approving, or not definitively, the DIC declaration, the only possibility that this project to move forward.

These guys can only want public schools where to indoctrinate in Catalan. Like Puchdemon. The most are only excuses.
    You have 18 months left.

A private center would never have to be financed with public money, since its registration fees plus monthly payments are considerably much higher and exclusive for all citizens. Only certain families can afford this expense and the percentage of this social group in the area is minimal. Another issue, in addition, is the agenda and educational level that, being private, is independent of the Consellería d 'Educació. As for the issue of jobs, if we continue to argue that well-known tagline we can build any outrage that occurs to us as has been done on so many occasions. For example ... the area would be perfect for a Mediterranean Corridor Train Station. But not only of passengers but of goods. That would certainly give jobs. He does not believe?

The staff is as tame and short-sighted as ever. What a pity.

  4. Ernesto says:

If the International School you propose to build is private, what is your level of community interest to access the DIC? I could understand it if it were public but it is not. And to continue if the land is not developable, what are they trying to force by insisting? If a private individual owns non-developable land, not even a simple house is allowed to build. The difference is in the money that the construction company is going to pay to be able to access it, right? Nothing changes ... nor would they have to consider it, and there you see them arguing ... paying, San Pedro sings. I wish they would do the same to build Public Schools that children have been waiting for for years in third world conditions.

Although it is true that the school is private. The Ministry of Education continues to finance them, nor has it imposed a ceiling on places for them. If a company sees that there is a business for that investment, it will initially create jobs, and the DIC figure is precisely for that, to be implanted in non-buildable land and with temporary occupation of it (the law does not speak if they are to be easy or difficult disassembly). The Ayto in this case must ensure integration in the landscape, since the project from my point of view if it has social advantages, but only the creation of jobs.
