CEDMA begins a round of contacts with those affected by the 'Xylella fastidiosa'

23 March 2018 - 07: 40

With more than a thousand hectares affected in three counties, the Xylella fastidiosa has become one of the great nightmares of farmers in the Marina Alta. And it is not for less, since 27% of the plots of the Marina Alta (especially Xaló), the Marina Baixa and El Comtat are already infected by this bacterium for which there is no known cure and that although up to now It has only affected almond trees, it can nest in 370 different plant species.

Therefore, Business Cercle Marina Alta It has initiated an awareness campaign about this problem, which requires in any case the determined and courageous decision of effective measures that are capable of preventing, or at least mitigating, the economic collapse of the region.

The first ones with which they have met are the representatives of the Association of Young Farmers of the Province of Alicante (ASAJA Alicante), an association that has already demanded the change of protocol stipulated by the Regional Ministry for its eradication.

The president of CEDMA was present at the meeting, Sonja Dietz, and the third vice-president, Benito Mestre, and on behalf of ASAJA, the technician Teresa Alemany. From CEDMA they have made themselves available to undertake whatever actions are necessary in order that this matter can be dealt with with the greatest of urgencies "given everything that is here at stake".

This campaign of awareness, prevention etc would have to come from the City Council and not from a private organization like this. The environment area would have to deal with this issue and offer a service to citizens.

  2. Jose Juan Guzman Naranjo says:

Good, there is already a product that prevents and cures crops. No need for the destruction of these plants can be treated and with good results. There is no need to fear that bacteria. a greeting
