Anna Sobrecases and Cuqui Ribes are chosen as Exemplary Fallas of the Fallas of Dénia 2024

January 17 from 2024 - 16: 00

The falleras Anna Sobrecases, from the Marítimo Baix la Mar district and Cuqui Ribes, from the Centro district, are the exemplary falleras of the failures of Dénia 2024. This was decided by the jury, meeting on Tuesday, January 16, after evaluating the candidacies presented by the city's Fallas commissions.

Anna Sobrecases Hostalrich

Fallera from Baix la Mar, Anna Sobrecases has been the commission's senior child faller on her 50th birthday, in the year 1996/1997, and in the year 2010/2011. The following year, Anna was elected Fallera Mayor de Dénia for the year 2012.

After her experience as the highest representative of the Dénia Fallas, Anna became part of the Local Board Fallera for two years, at the same time that she held the position of protocol delegate to her commission.

In 2015 she was the maintainer of the fallera mayor of Baix la Mar, Laura Oltra, and presenter of the fallera mayor of the Western district, Noelia Vargas. Thanks to these two experiences she won the award for the best exaltation and the best presenter of the Fallas of Denia 2015, being in charge of the presentation of the major Fallas of Dénia in 2016.

Anna has held positions as vice president of Baix la Mar; protocol delegate, in charge of the fallero side and, this year for the first time, creator of the exaltation of the commission's major fallera.

Kookie Fornés Ribes

In 1973, Cuqui Ribes Fornés began to be part of the Falla Centro, a commission of which she was the highest representative in 1977. Unfortunately in the seventies of the last century and for at least two more decades, the women who had held the position of fallera major could not continue on the commission. However, Cuqui
She never lost her connection with the failure as she was part of a very alternative group that had been born, precisely, to alleviate female discrimination within the commissions. It was an exclusively female group, which included the women of the falleros and some former falleras and former falleras mayors.

The group called itself 'Les Heidis', converted a few years later to Les Més Dures, an ineffable group of women who, from a distance, have known how to support the commission in those tasks that it has specified. This
group received the De La Falla Centro Gold Medal in 2006.

On a personal note, Cuqui received the Falla Gold Medal in 2000, becoming the first woman to receive this distinction. Since 2002, Cuqui has been an uninterrupted part of the Falla Centro, holding positions of vice president, general secretary and vice secretary. For 17 years she has been in charge of the
criticism of the failure.

Recognition of the Fallas world

When the jury communicated the names of the exemplary falleras to the president of the Local Fallera Board, Jaume Bertomeu, was in charge of informing the protagonists of the news. Moments later, they were received at the headquarters of the Fallera Local Board by the president and the jury.

On Saturday, February 17, Anna and Cuqui will receive recognition from the Fallas world for their career at the traditional Fallas Gala Dinner in Dénia.
