About fifteen rorqual whales swim along the coast of Dénia

23 June 2023 - 13: 25

The passage of fin whales off the coast of Dénia is a phenomenon that occurs throughout the year and intensifies in the months of June and July. Since last June 15, fifteen of these whales have been sighted off our coasts, according to data recorded by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, the non-profit association dedicated mainly to cetacean research EDMAKTUB and individuals.

The Environmental and Marine Service of the Dénia City Council invites anyone who sees a specimen of fin whale off the Dianense coast to report the sighting by phone (616) 947 579.

Coinciding with the start of this passing season, the Dénia City Council and the NGO Eucrante are launching the Rorqual 2023 volunteer campaign for another year, in which interested people can participate in whale watching tasks from the observation station of the Torre del Gerro and contribute to the collection of data for the investigation of the migratory passage of these whales through Cape Sant Antoni. To register, you need to send an email to this mail.

The campaign takes place from June 15 to July 15. The volunteer teams will be divided into two time groups: from 6:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 17:00 p.m. to 21:00 p.m. Just yesterday, from the Torre del Gerro observatory, the passage of three rorquals was recorded.
