Dénia ha celebrado un año más las Jornadas de Observación Marina ‘Obmar’, que entre el 22 y el 25 de junio han registrado una quincena de avistamientos de cetáceos, además de diferentes especies de avifauna (cormorán moñudo, pardela balear y cenicienta, moritos, flamencos, halcones peregrinos y alcatraces), peces luna y peces voladores y una tortuga boba (de 1 m de caparazón).
Regarding cetaceans, in the four days of study and observation, organized by the Dénia City Council and in which the University of Valencia, the Ministry of the Environment, Xaloc and the Polytechnic University of Valencia have participated, from the Gandia campus , 6 groups of bottlenose dolphins and 8 specimens of fin whales have been sighted, the second largest animal on the planet.
The observation points have been four simultaneous platforms, from land and by sea: the Dénia Coast Guard boat and the Mundo Marino company's catamaran; and on land, the cetacean and marine avifauna observatory, which the council has installed at the end of Les Rotes, and the Gerro tower.
Since May, the month in which the season of passage of these marine giants off the Dianense coast begins, and to date, 19 fin whale sightings have been recorded (in 2020, the figure amounted to 94 whales sighted from Dénia).
Proyecto ‘Cabo Rorcual’
Cabe destacar que durante la temporada 2021, el punto de observación de la torre del Gerro forma parte del proyecto ‘Cabo Rorcual’, del campus de Gandia de la UPV; proyecto auspiciado por la Fundación Biodiversidad del Ministerio de Transición Ecológica y que cuenta también con la colaboración del Ayuntamiento de Dénia.
El proyecto ‘Cabo Rorcual’ ha tomado como base de la investigación la costa de Dénia por ser el punto geográfico con mayor frecuencia de paso de cetáceos de toda la Comunidad Valenciana.
