A jet ski invades the swimming area at high speed a few meters from swimmers

15 June 2020 - 10: 49

The summer season is just around the corner and since we entered Phase 2 at the beginning of this month, allowing us to access our beaches In order to enjoy them again, many have decided to recover their confined time by anticipating their first bath. Similarly, those who practice different nautical sports have taken advantage of the new freedoms to return to the water. Of course, in some cases the desire for freedom makes them forget that even then sailing has its restrictions.

In this video that a reader sends us, you can see one of these cases. An a priori empty beach is tempting for those who practice speed sports, but sailing at more than three knots within the bathing area in addition to not being allowed is highly dangerous.

The images show how the bike slows down to less than 25 meters from the shore, in an area where people are enjoying the bath.

It is forbidden to navigate at a speed greater than 3 knots less than 200 meters from the shore even if there is no signaling for a beacon line, as is the case, until this week when it will be installed as confirmed by the Councilor for Beaches, Pepe Doménech. Those first 200 meters is the area reserved for the bathroom although, let us insist, there is no signage. In other words, bathers do not require their own signaling based on buoys to swim or dive. In the event that a boat did not respect this bathing area, they would have no way of seeing whoever was practicing, for example, snorkeling, leaving them totally exposed.

For this reason, it is necessary to be aware of how important it is to find a balance between practicing speed sport in the sea and swimming. Even more on a beach such as the one starring in the video, the Marineta Cassiana, where a large percentage of its users are families and elderly people due to the shallow depth of its waters.

It's bad, but it seems worse to me and nobody criticizes, how fast recreational boats go, especially large ones, in the Marine Reserve area, and that is daily, with and without pandemic.
