August concludes in a season in which the controversy of the state of the beaches by the presence of posidonia on its banks. This debate, in addition to starring in strong clashes in social networks between neighbors, has moved to the two plenary sessions this summer where politicians, as did their constituents, also discussed the benefits and damages of our coasts and tourism.
Although a fraction remains clearly critical of the accumulation of these plants on our beaches during these months, the Government, in the last plenary of August, defended that the level of action is the same since the cleaning services were hired. However, they assure that if this August there has been more presence of posidonia it is due to the storms that our area has suffered, although Popular Dénia They point out that in July the sea was calm and still the presence of Posidonia was practically the same.
In any case, Pepe Doménech, Councilor for Beaches, presented the performance data for this August, in which it can be seen that 3220 tons of posidonia have been collected this month, 1510 more than in 2018. "It has reached the coast practically every day", Doménech says, so that the state of the beaches would be caused, as they bet, by the currents and warn that to cope with these levels the only option was to increase the budget for the collection, making it greater than the previous years.
