Podem Dénia proposes to create a department for intercultural integration in the face of the growth of the foreign population

February 23 from 2023 - 14: 22

podem Dénia estimates that 30% of the population of Dénia comes from other countries, that is, almost 15.000 people. A figure that has increased in the last year also as a result of the reception of Ukrainian and Russian refugees.

For this reason, from the formation they launch a new proposal: create an independent department for intercultural integration that seeks the inclusion of all nationalities that live in the town.

"Although the variability of the origin and socioeconomic situation of migrants is very large, in all cases there is a culture shock and specific and different inclusion needs, both for EU citizens and for non-EU citizens", they argue.

Juanjo Nieves, Podem candidate for mayor of Dénia: «It is not acceptable that for 30% of our neighbors from other countries, less than 5% of the municipal budget is allocated, when without their contribution it would be impossible to sustain local sectors such as hospitality, tourism or construction. For this reason, they deserve a budgetary effort and inclusion proportional to their contribution, which includes an independent council, otherwise, we will go to a social model of isolated cultural ghettos, which is the ideal breeding ground for the xenophobic discourse of the extreme right. ».

Cristina Molinillo, local spokesperson: "The current Pangea office for attention to migrants, although it makes a great effort, is diluted within other municipal powers, and has a significant lack of human and budgetary resources for the great demand that exists for mediation and advice. Just to solve the problems related to language barriers, many more resources would be needed, both for courses in Valencian and Spanish for foreigners, as well as translators and teachers who speak other languages to support the local educational system».

The purple formation also proposes that within the city council, through the professional career complement, local civil servants learn other languages, in order to help people who speak other languages, "skills that make perfect sense when it comes to a tourist town hall that in summer receives visitors from all over the world”, they add.

"In this whole integration process, volunteering and local festive, sports and cultural associations should play a key role, understanding integration as a two-way relationship, where both parties, locals and migrants, are enriched by cultural exchange," they understand.

Altruism seems very good to me if the person who proposes it does so with his or her money; and much more when that party manages millions for ignoble causes.
Charity begins with oneself. Currently in Denia there are people coming from neighboring countries, who enjoy many more privileges than the Spanish themselves, without being compared to those of extreme need.
Oh!. Why when they have an occurrence do they always resort to quoting RIGHT? We know very well that you call yourself LEFT PEOPLE, as if you were the good guys.
