The Dénia Health Department detects 150 new cases of breast cancer every year. The incidence of this type of tumor in the Marina Alta is 100 cases per 100.000 inhabitants, when the national average for the same population is 48.
Factors that influence these figures are: aging population of the region and percentage representing the foreign population, with a higher incidence than in Spanish. However, the survival rate is also higher than the national average, thanks to prevention programs and early diagnosis launched by the Health Department.
The breast cancer management is also a priority for the Department of Health of Dénia; so that there are specialized teams that work exclusively in this pathology: tumor Committee, consisting of a complete multidisciplinary team.
Surgical Team: 2 plastic surgeons, incorporated into the general surgery team, who treat the aesthetic aspects of the patient, through Oncoplastic Surgery, as the immediate reconstructions of the breast.
The Department of Health of Dénia is one of the most recognized in the study of the sentinel node in patients with breast cancer. Thus axillary dissection is avoided in all cases it is feasible, which reduces significantly the long-term morbidity.
Marina Health also has a radiology specialized and dedicated to the diagnosis of breast cancer staff. It also has the most advanced technology; so that is one of the departments most frequently used MRI, magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosis, allowing specialists to work with great precision and high quality standards.

Through collaboration with the AECC, the Oncology Service has the help of a psycho-oncologist, both for patients and their families. The Association also offer escort service, thanks to hospital volunteer.
Marina Salud collaborates with the Spanish Association Against Cancer, AECC, in the II Solidarity Walk that takes place tomorrow in Dénia, coinciding with the celebration of World Breast Cancer Day. It is a coastal route that will start at the 10: 00 of the car park next to the Real Club Nautico Denia to get to the end of Les Rotes. The organizers have arranged buses back, once the event is over.
