Disabled people claiming equal treatment and to participate in society

On the World Day of people with intellectual disabilities or developmental held Monday 3 December, hundreds of people gathered in the Plaza of the Constitution of Dénia to vindicate the rights of all of them and say NO to measures daily cut their rights and freedom.

Organized by the Association for the Mentally Handicapped of the Marina Alta (APROSDECO), its president Ana Mª Vadillo and treasurer José Luis Guntiñas denounced in their manifesto the cuts and reforms that undermine the rights of people with disabilities in sectors such as health, education, employment and social services.

They railed against funding delays and lack of credit that impede the maintenance of services and projects that support people as APROSECO, whom the Generalitat Valenciana owes more than 400.000 euros. 48.800 euros of debt in sheltered housing, over the Ocuapcional 45.400 2011 Center year and more than 317.000 2012 euros; 15.000 euros to the Special Employment Center and around 1.700 euros to the leisure club. Too astronomical debt to deal with payments to suppliers and employees, which currently faced with available resources.

After the manifesto, Adrián García and Amparo Llobell, two representatives of people with intellectual disabilities, read the Manifesto for Full Citizenship of Persons with Intellectual or Developmental Disabilities in which they asked to participate in society, that their rights are fulfilled, to have access to education and a job, to be independent and to comply with the rules of access to the facilities of the premises.

Currently in Dénia are three associations working for people with disabilities: Aprosdeco, Adisde and Ludai, which has recently been named Early Childhood Center.
