Healthcare in Dénia commitment greater collaboration between health centers and pharmacies

The Department of Health Denia has long been working to improve the level of collaboration between health centers and pharmacies, in order to ensure that patients make more safe and responsible use of medicines. It has done so through talks and various campaigns and, today, continues to promote it and assisting in organizing other initiatives.

One is the doctoral thesis of ondarense pharmaceutical Fernando Mud on Improved prescription over 65 years after detection of potentially inappropriate or omitted prescriptions using criteria STOPP / STARTDeveloped under the direction of head of Clinical Pharmacy Area, Training, Teaching and Research Department of Health of Dénia, Jaime Poquet. Part of the work was presented to the XXV Conference of Valencia on Hypertension and Vascular Risk, Winning the award for best communication of Congress.

In its conclusions, Fernando Mud stresses that the involvement of community pharmacists in medication review helps in detecting and solving problems, provided there is a direct relationship with primary care physicians.

The data obtained allowed us to conclude that more than half of the patients presented some possible inadequate prescription and that about 5% had at least a double between their prescriptions. In addition, of the total problems related to the medication, previously analyzed and notified, changes were made only in 11%.

It explains the thesis, it is necessary therefore to increase collaboration between primary care-Specialized-Community Pharmacy for possible improper or omitted prescriptions, make corrections and perform updates based on pathology and needs of each patient to correct duplications and other problems.
