The network of school roads 'Caminis' of Dénia receives an autonomous award

18 September 2018 - 08: 51

Going to school walking in Dénia has a prize. The Caminis school road network has been recognized this week, as part of the 3th edition of the European Mobility Week Awards 2018 in the Valencian Community.

Specifically, the City of Dénia has won the first prize in the category of medium-sized cities (between 50.000 and 20.000 inhabitants), an award that has shared ex aequo with the City of Ribarroja for the initiative "Ribarroja encourages the use of public transport".

The Caminis project, promoted by the Department of Public Safety and coordinated in the initial phase by the technical team 7 a + i, intends to create a network of school roads in Dénia, La Xara and Jesús Pobre that suppose more security, more well-being and more autonomy for girls and boys, following the premise that when urban policies make the entire city an adequate space for children, it is also for the rest of the population.

Caminis is carried out in a participatory manner among the educational community -professionals, families and students-; technicians and councilors of the different areas of the City Council involved and entities of the social environment.

The network of school roads was launched last school year. Since then, awareness campaigns and popular actions have been carried out in the street -a critical walk and a debate with documentary screening- with a very good citizen response.

The prize for Caminis was given to the mayor on Monday in Valencia, from the Minister of Housing, Public Works and Vertebration of the Territory, María José Salvador.
