The Platform in Defense of Public Health is committed to a "first" region in health

Fifty people gathered in the afternoon of Friday in Glorieta of the Valencian Country in a concentration called by the Platform in Defense of Public Health of the Marina Alta in favor of the recovery of the health system of the region to the public.

In a hopeful statement they spoke of "Illusion, of beginning to see the fruits of so many years of struggle to recover the essential right to be treated as people, to enjoy a dignified and equitable health system". The objective that is expected to be achieved is that "The Marina Alta is again a region of first, also in the sanitary"and they said that "We are going to do it all together: platform, citizenship, town halls ... without partisan interests, thinking only of people".

The Councilor for Health of the City of Dénia, Cristina Morera, assured that, although the process is being slower than desired, "a greater referral of patients to La Pedrera has been achieved, the third floor of the hospital is opened or the Ictus and Infarction codes are reviewed", although he acknowledged that "there is much work to do". Now, the focus is placed on the vacation plan of the hospital, to ensure that health care in summer meets the needs of a region that triples its population in high season.

On behalf of the sick associations, a representative of AMADEM spoke, explaining the work that the association with the mentally ill performs and demanded "programs that affect the prevention of chronicity, that guarantee the continuity of care and that take into account the families, who act as caregivers". From AMADEM they consider that we have "an incomplete model of care for mental health patients with great differences with other regions".

Controversy with a deputy of Podemos

There were several political representatives who attended the concentration. One of them, the deputy of Podemos Daniel Geffner, took the floor to present the opinion of his party regarding health in the Marina Alta. During his speech, a member of the Platform reproached him for not attending the meetings and coming alone "to take the picture". The discomfort among the members of the platform increased to the point of removing the banner and refusing to take photographs with the politicians who had attended the rally.
