FAO joins Denia Mountain Partnership United Nations

The celebration of the Day of Mountains in Dénia ended with a cherry on the cake: FAO has invited Dénia to join the ALLIANCE for Mountains of the United Nations, recognizing the work of the Local Agenda 21 in celebrating that epoch.

180 participates in the Alizana for the Mountains, from all over the world, with the aim of protecting mountain ecosystems by joining forces.

In a video conference with the deputy director general of the Forestry Department of FAO, Eduardo Rojas-Briales from Rome, the mayor and council of the Local Agenda, thanked the support provided by FAO and moved the success of the initiative, uniting mountains of all country.

During the video conference he was also attended by director general of the Natural Environment of the Department of Environment, José Alfredo González Prieto, who congratulated the consistory for the commitment to combine environmental protection and tourism development.

The official ceremony ended activities around the Mountain Day began with the rise of Montgó many people accompanied by the Basque mountaineer Juanito Oiarzábal, who promised to be the next year the standard bearer of this day in the mountains of the Basque Country .
