The accessibility of some establishments in Denia, in question

17 July 2017 - 02: 05

In our day to day life perhaps we are not aware of how important it is to live in a city accessible to people with different capacities. This week we have received the testimony of a neighbor on this subject that, for their interest, we reproduce in full:

"For a few weeks, following an injury, I go in a wheelchair, and thus facilitate my mobility, or at least I thought so. Given this situation I have been able to see how poorly adapted our city is, Denia.

I went out shopping and realized that the three shoe stores in Marques de Campo, none with adapted access, to enter had to climb a step that exceeded 20 cm. They think that the "lame" (as a friend says) as we are in a wheelchair we do not need shoes ???

In a perfumery, in the same street, the slope of the ramp is so pronounced that if they had not helped me, I would have reached the middle of the street.

Observing, I realized that there were very few stores with accesses adapted for people with reduced mobility and sentí, that there really is discrimination. Things have been done in the city, some well done and others not so well, but there is still much to do.

That is why I invite the authorities and merchants to get in a wheelchair and walk around the city not only through the main streets, and so they can check, like me now, the areas that are adapted and which should improve. Because in the least thoughtful moment, they can be very useful. "

There are two high pavements in Marques de Campo and it is not possible to cross the road and go up and je other side. It is very difficult from the Las Marines roundabout towards Las Marinnes as well. Many areas are not friendly for wheel chair users. I also don't not why at 81 years old I have to wait 2 years to get an appointment to get tested for a blue badge for my car. Denia hospital Sid 5 years ago I need a blue badge but I must somehow go to Alicante police to be assessed in maybe 2 years.

Most places are difficult with a wheelchair. Parking for people with permits is quite abundant but it is difficult to know where all the places are located.

Totally agree with the opinion. Of these things you do not realize until you live them.

You are right, very few establishments have wheelchair access and in the Rotes, the beaches have no access what is unheard of in these times and with so many advances.

It is not logical that this happens, it is as if these people did not have to buy, eat, drink some beer, go to the beach and enjoy life
