Equality transfers the Ministry of Social Affairs to intercede with Health so that caregivers are vaccinated along with their dependents

February 18 from 2021 - 14: 26

The Vice President and Minister for Equality and Inclusive Policies, Mónica Oltra, has reported that she has sent a letter to the Second Vice President and Minister of Social Affairs, Pablo Iglesias, to intercede with the Ministry of Health so that caregivers are vaccinated together to the dependents who are in their charge.

This has been communicated by Oltra to the representatives of the platforms and other entities that work with the groups of dependent people, in a meeting they have held to inform them about how the vaccination calendar is progressing in the Valencian Community, and especially about vaccination of this sector of the population.

Oltra, who has been accompanied by the regional secretary for Primary Care and Social Services, Irene Gavidia, and the general director of Primary Care and Personal Autonomy, Mercé Martínez Llopis, explained that this week they have begun to vaccinate dependent people with grade II and grade III who attend day centers.

In this line, the vice president has indicated, the next step is the vaccination of those dependent people who do not go to centers, and added that it is in this case where it would be important that those people who are responsible for their care are also vaccinated, as the Valencian Government has already requested in the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System, which rejected the demand.

Oltra has indicated that, as it was with the Minister of Universal Health and Public Health, it has been decided to continue claiming the inclusion of this group and, for that reason, the letter has been sent to the Ministry of Social Affairs so that it can mediate before Health and beech "a social view on the whole vaccination issue".

The vice president has stressed that it is important that the around 64.000 people who care for the family environment that exist in the Valencian Community are taken into account, since if they only stay in "a purely sanitary look" it is obvious what can happen if the person who cares for the dependent becomes ill.

"It is not a question of the possible contagion, but a question of the neglect that can cause the caregiver to become ill and have to be admitted to the hospital, before which we will have a dependent person vaccinated but without care", He said.

Oltra has stated that at this time "The largest residence we have is precisely that of the people who are cared for at home by their relatives, who are 64.000 people that we must protect, because it is a way to also protect people in a situation of dependency".

Regarding the vaccination formula, the vice president has indicated that the idea is that it occurs at the same time that the dependent person is vaccinated, "among other things because it makes us more effective and efficient when vaccinating", has added.

The vice president added that in the letter sent to the Ministry, they also ask for the inclusion of other groups that have a direct relationship with the most vulnerable groups, such as the Social Services Inspection personnel, the evaluators of the dependency situation, the technical personnel in execution of guardianships and the social health personnel of different resources related to functional diversity or people in a situation of social exclusion, among others.
