The price of Dénia red shrimp breaks historical records in the middle of autumn: has it become the D*na souvenir?

05 October 2023 - 13: 48

Neither in summer nor in Christmas, as usual. The price of Dénia red shrimp has skyrocketed in the middle of autumn. The Dianense delicacy, in its most exclusive category, has reached historic prices in the market these days.

The first-class red shrimp is the most exclusive product that leaves the port of Dénia. This usually has sky-high prices, being within the reach of very few. In fact, it is unattainable not only because of its value, but because it always ends up in a few hands. To find them you have to investigate, since they do not reach all kitchens.

Apparently, the fight between the largest restaurateurs to obtain the greatest number of this product is precisely causing prices to rise so much. However, what is not normal is that in autumn they reach 415 euros per kilo that a restaurant spent last week. The invoice, published by Siete Caníbales, is striking, in which the total of the batch, which was 1,32 kilos of red shrimp from Dénia, represented an amount of 547,80 euros.

What causes these prices?

It is an excessive price at any time of the year, although it would not be as surprising in summer or Christmas. But at this point, what is the reason? Well, there are two factors that are straining the value of shrimp: biological unemployment, as is normal, but also D*na.

The Dénia gastronomic festival has attracted a large number of people willing to pay unusual prices for that much-discussed red shrimp that is the emblem of Dianense gastronomy. They come to acquire it almost as a souvenir, thus creating a new, and brief, scenario: a luxury gastronomic tourism whose souvenir is the shrimp, and who are in a way responsible for bids that increase the price of a product with an already overpriced yes huge. Which does not justify the price that has normalized the rest of the year.

The red shrimp is exquisite but it is true rednecks and nouveau riche to brag about that price for me as if they were a chicken.

  2. Jopelin says:

Luis, tell the supermarket that they sell them for €59 per kg.
    Porfa

Luis, you can say it louder, but not clearer.
You have to fill out the news page, and a lot of product comes from the South, but from the South.

This is the beginning of the end of the red shrimp…..

  5. Luis says:

Well, at €59k they have it in a well-known supermarket. Why don't you do an article about the brutal rise in the price of food, basic products and essentials in supermarkets? Who cares about the shrimp, they can eat four delicious ones.

I completely agree Luis, it seems that they are envious of paying high prices for a product that, although exquisite, is not a basic necessity. (It's the law of supply and demand).
