Dénia, as the Creative City of Gastronomy, continues touring the commitments that, as such, it has to attend. The last one was last week, in Poland, where the annual meeting of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network was held, which is required for all the member cities of the network.

400 delegates of the 180 cities integrated by UNESCO in any of its seven established fields attended to this important event: Literature, Music, Cinema, Crafts, Digital Art, Design and Gastronomy. The generic motto of the days was Crossing of Creativity.

During the four days of the meeting, Dénia had a special role, participating in several presentations and showing some of the projects that are taking place in the region.

One of the most interesting was the Mercat del riurau of Jesus Pobre, in the framework of the panel on Creativity for the planet: Promoting resilience and environmental awareness.

The director of the Office of Innovation and Creativity, Floren Terrades, presented before the plenary session of delegates -technical and institutional- the experience of the Mercat del Riurau de Jesús Pobre as an example of good practices to generate more sustainable cities.

In his speech, previously selected by UNESCO, he highlighted the role played by this market in the promotion of agri-food entrepreneurship and the landscape and heritage recovery of its environment, highlighting also its informative and touristic component with the experience of the Ruta dels riuraus. The session was presented by the director of the UNESCO Creativity Division, Jyoti Hosagrahar, who also had a private meeting with the Dianense delegation.

Also the mayor of Denia, Vicent Grimalt, participated in the Forum of Mayors of the assembly, which with more than 50 institutional representatives of the Creative Cities, registered the highest official participation of the meetings organized from 2004. Vicent Grimalt had an intervention in which he spoke of Dénia's progress in fulfilling the UN's 2003 agenda, precisely based on the projects related to its incorporation into the UNESCO network.

The idea of creating and organizing the Riu Rau Market is excellent. Now, to present yourself as an example of sustainability, as if they had to be taught something to others, I find it too pretentious, they have not invented it. It is that market of all the existing life in all the countries, with its products of proximity. As it was always done before the arrival of supermarkets and large supermarkets that for some reason the neighbors themselves decided to choose to the detriment of traditional markets and natural products harvested by their own neighbors, thus breaking their own sustainability.
