Eleven years have had to pass for the third institute of Dénia to be "baptized" by its educational community. What we now know as Ies Dénia 3 Number will be renamed IES Sorts de la Mar after the vote of students, teachers, administration staff, parents last Tuesday, December 4.
Sorts de la Mar is the place name of the game in which the center is located, a denomination that derives from the distribution of land made by lottery. This denomination appears already in 1698 documents, and from now on it will also identify the secondary center.
The process of searching for a new name began two years ago, with the presentation of proposals. Three options came to the final vote: keep the name of IES Number 3; IES Mirall del Montgó, for the proximity of the center to the natural park, and finally the winner, IES Sorts de la Mar.
The director of the institute, Isabel Montserrat, explained that the next step is to report the results to the members of the School Council and the Municipal Council. Finally, it will be transferred to Conselleria so that it ratifies the change of name, although the time when it will be official is unknown.
