The Dénia City Council will present a motion with measures to support the local agricultural sector

The government team of the Dénia City Council (PSPV-Compromís) presents a motion to the ordinary plenary session of March that includes the demands of the local agricultural sector and adds measures suggested by the municipal group Gent of Dénia to simplify bureaucratic procedures.

The proposal, prepared after a meeting between the Councilor for Agriculture and Fisheries, Sandra Gertrúdix, and representatives of agricultural unions, such as Toni París on behalf of the Unió de Llauradors i Ramaders and Frank Saubà, from AVA-Asaja and Antonio Hedilla, producer , owner of Villa San José, an agricultural farm in the municipality of Dénia, to learn first-hand about the needs and suggestions of local farmers that now appear reflected in the document that will be voted on in the plenary session next Thursday.

As a result of this sharing, the motion includes two very specific points regarding agriculture and local producers and their demands. The aforementioned point 8, in which the Dénia City Council "assumes its historical responsibility with agriculture" and undertakes to convene the Agrarian Council at least once a year and rely on it to develop its agricultural policies; to enforce municipal regulations regarding the cleaning and maintenance of barren terraces and strict control of irregular constructions of tool houses; as well as to disseminate and support local agricultural initiatives. It will also take measures to prevent fruit theft and to make agriculture visible in the socio-political life of Dénia as a fundamental strategic and economic axis.

Likewise, another of the sector's demands is expressed focused on aid and investments being allocated to new infrastructures and facilities that allow the reuse of treated water so that it can be used for irrigation of agricultural crops. Ensure fair prices for agricultural producers, urging the Consell de la Generalitat Valenciana to guarantee compliance with the Agri-Food Chain Law and to promote the urgent creation of a Valencian Agency for food control that guarantees the payment of fair prices, as well as promote measures that contribute to the consumption of local products, "limiting the implementation of new large commercial stores in the municipality and regulating new opening licenses" with conditions that encourage and reward the implementation of sales channels for local proximity products, are Other measures are contemplated in the motion.
