The Alicante Civil Guard has arrested a 20-year-old young man in the port of Dénia for allegedly trying to board a ferry with more than eight kilograms of marijuana and more than one kilogram of hashish on board bound for the island of Ibiza.
On February 29, a team made up of agents from the Fiscal and Border Detachment of the Dénia Civil Guard, Calpe Fiscal Patrol and the Cynological Service of the Alicante Command carried out a security device aimed at the investigation and fiscal protection of the embarkations and disembarkations of the ferries that set sail and arrive at the port of Denia.
During a routine inspection of a vehicle heading to Ibiza, officers noticed certain signs that raised suspicions, which led to a more detailed inspection.
It was at that moment when agent “Andi”, a trained dog from the Cynological Service, marked a cardboard box that, when inspected, revealed the presence of an electric water heater.
Upon further inspection of the heater, agents found a hidden device that was used to open it. Inside, 8 vacuum-packed plastic bags were found containing marijuana, as well as 13 hashish pills of different sizes, a total of 8,645 kilograms of marijuana and 1,132 kilograms of hashish.
The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old young man of Colombian nationality and resident in Torrevieja, was immediately arrested for an alleged crime against public health for drug trafficking.
Although the individual did not have a record of similar acts, he has been placed at the disposal of the Investigative Court No. 1 of Dénia, which has ordered his release with precautionary measures. The drugs found, as well as 500 euros in cash that were also found, have been seized and brought to justice.
