Dénia will once again have a smoke-free beach

16 June 2023 - 15: 29

The regional secretary for Public Health and the Public Health System, Ofèlia Gimeno, has delivered this morning the identifying flag of the beaches no smoke in the Marineta Cassiana (Marge Roig area). The Councilor for Beaches, Pepe Doménech, and the mayor of Dénia and mayor of Tourism, Vicent Grimalt, have been in charge of collecting the badge.

Gimeno has been grateful that Dénia maintains its commitment to this "important action for people to enjoy well-being on the beach." The regional secretary has highlighted the elimination of smoke and cigarette butts to promote healthy spaces and protect the environment. More municipalities join this initiative every year, in the words of Gimeno. For his part, Doménech has shown his intention to increase the smoke-free zone, which is currently about 700 meters long. The objective, says the mayor, is "to expand it to the other side of the Marineta beach to have more than 1.000 meters of smoke-free beach."

This is the third summer that this beach has received the badge that certifies adherence to the 'Smoke-free beaches' campaign. The initiative aims to ensure a healthy space for bathers and reduce contamination by cigarette butts by prohibiting smoking in the area.

    Honestly this is subsidized bullshit.

  2. Marian says:

Great for the privileged who come to the Marineta. But... when will it be our turn to those of the other beaches? Is it that we are second-class citizens and we have to put up with someone smoking in the umbrella next door -sometimes very close and even if they see that there are children- and with the risk that our little ones do not put the butts in their mouths? ? Also, many of those butts end up in the sea. Most smokers don't even carry a suitable container -a simple glass jar would do- to keep their butts there, they don't respect the rights of others, but should the rest of us respect their right to smoke in a public place?

Broad-sightedness…because what is not good for those who go to the marineta…nor for those of us who go to other beaches…
Paea when all the beaches of the municipality are free of smoke? It's not that much effort... Anyone who wants to smoke leaves the group of people on the beach and that's it

  4. Jopelin says:

Does Ofelia smoke out of curiosity?

  5. NeighborMarines says:

    I'm a smoker but I think it's a great idea.
Too many cigarette butts are seen on all the beaches of Denia.
There are also no bins or ashtrays to leave/turn them off, perhaps we should start there before prohibitions that are difficult to monitor.

  6. Ignacio says:

What about dog poop? Does that have to be endured? Where is the health of having a beach sand infected with excrement?

  7. Ignacio says:

And what about the dog houses? Does that have to be endured? Where is the health of having a beach sand infected with excrement?

    • José Luis says:

This is already planned and prohibited, but it does not justify one thing with the other, the same thing that pets are prohibited because there are people who bother them, and I see it as logical, the thousands of cigarette butts that end up in the sea, or in the a baby's mouth
