This is how Dénia will achieve normalizing the use of bicycles in the daily life of residents and visitors

"We have as objectives to normalize the use of the bicycle, enhance the coexistence of mobility by bike with the rest of the transport, develop a comprehensive strategy that avoids the performance of uncoordinated and isolated actions, and establish a cycling mobility that changes the current conditions that they are not the best ". That's how clear they are in the mobility department of the City of Dénia.

After evaluating system of shared bicycles Deniabici and the proposals for a comprehensive bicycle strategy in Dénia, the feasibility of the current bicycle public loan system has been determined due to several reasons.

The first, the dimensioning of the system: there are only 6 stations, so it would require a sizing of one station for each 300 meters, in a total of 25 stations (when in 2013 a subsidy for that extension was lost).

It also points to a very low level of use, of only five users a day. In addition, the Deniabici system does not fit with the bicycle path networks; and finally, the high cost of maintenance and vandalism is taken into account, without having an impact on the user.

Measures to be applied

In view of the analysis of reality, and the survey, the City of Dénia has launched measures and the development of a comprehensive plan for bicycle mobility:

• The dismantling of the public bike loan system.
• The improvement of the bike parking, replacement and extension. It has acted on 71 aparcabicis, with system replacement to inverted U, with the consequent relocation, painting and signaling. Currently there are more than 150 new anchors, so it means more than 300 bike points.
• The reinforcement of the bi-registry.
• The development of a strategic bicycle mobility plan that includes measures already included in the SUMP, Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, as well as other important measures such as traffic calming, reduced speed zones, 30 and 20.
• The modification of the traffic ordinance.
