19 December 2016 - 12: 55

For a few minutes Aemet has decreed the red alert in the entire region of the Marina Alta. The heavy rainfall that has fallen throughout the morning has caused it to go from orange to red alert.

Red alert

Hydrological warning has been received in all town councils due to the danger of overflowing the Girona and Gorgos rivers. The entire population is requested not to circulate or approach the basins of these rivers.

The flood of them has been very important and it has joined the strong coastal swell. In Dénia some of the races were mid-morning about to overflow.

Firefighters removing a poster

The strong wind has also been featured throughout the night. Firefighters had to intervene this morning in Calle Marques de Campo, corner with the Esplanade Cervantes, to remove a sign that was detached and about to fall on the road.

The road from the Marines also had impassable areas with high water accumulation. As in certain ways that lead to the beach. So far the Llavador and Cami Cami de Gandia from CV 724 to Assagador del Palmar, remain closed to traffic.

Evicting residents

The municipality of Dénia ordered the evacuation of areas near the banks of the river Girona danger of overflow housing. Members of the Local Police and Civil Protection volunteer in the area are telling residents to leave their homes.
