Volunteers collect 661 kg of waste from the Dianense coast

07 October 2019 - 15: 56

Some 300 volunteers participated yesterday Sunday in the cleaning day Per net sea, willing to improve the marine environment of the coast of Dénia. Participants collaborated by collecting waste on foot, sailing and diving.

The land area covered by the cleaning teams reached from the northernmost area of Les Bassetes beach to the Punta del Raset; the coast of the Marine Reserve, from the Marineta Cassiana to the beach of les Arenetes; and the jetty south of the port of Dénia.

Thanks to the information provided by Javier Reyes, that the previous day, swimming between the Mena and Ca Nano restaurants, found a large outboard motor on the seabed, a group of volunteers were assembled to extract and eliminate that contaminating element of the waters of the Marine Reserve of the cape of Sant Antoni.

Curious was also the material collected that comes from the ferry Pinar de Rio (a large bita, handrails, etc.). One of the points where more waste was collected yesterday is undoubtedly the southern breakwater.

The divers, some from Dénia and others coming from different points of the Valencian Community, cleared the area between the port of Dénia and the Cova Tallà. The resulting residue was lower than other editions, since there was little visibility by the sea of the day before. In addition, the City Council ensures that there are more and more users of boats that are aware of the preservation of the marine environment, so the number of waste is, fortunately, less.

In total, during the cleaning day yesterday, 661 kilograms of waste were collected, classified as follows:

Metal: 305kg

Plastic: 186kg

Glass: 98kg

Organic: 72kg

Cigarette butts: some thousands
