Tense clash between Grimalt and Mut (PP) due to the nature of the posidonia

26 July 2019 - 09: 40

On Thursday the Ordinary Plenary was held in the Hall of the City Hall of Dénia. During the act, the points to be treated were presented without any surprise. Until it was the turn of prayers and questions.

The spokeswoman for the Popular Party, María Mut, took the opportunity to ask the Councilor for Beach Planning and Management, Pepe Doménech, about the protocol for cleaning the coast attending to the complaints of some users about the state of the rocky beaches. According to the popular vowel, the accumulation of posidonia is greater than other years and nothing is being done about it, causing its strong decomposition odors that bother the neighbors and bathers.

Faced with the question, Doménech replied that in the case of beaches that are not sandy, due to the difficulty of collecting the remains, action is taken when there is a large accumulation that facilitates work. In addition, he informed him that during that same week he was already acting in different coves of rocks.

However, Mut insisted that it was the first time this summer that a withdrawal of this type was taking place, which the Socialist mayor acknowledged, and that this protocol is detrimental to tourism.

At the insistence of the popular, Vicent Grimalt asked for the turn of speech as Councilor for Tourism. The mayor also, sharply, pointed out that the alleged dirt that was talked about was posidonia and recalled that all studies confirm the many benefits they have for the maintenance of coasts and water. He prayed that, as public representatives, he would set an example and stop treating this natural element as if it were garbage. "The algae are not bad, because they are a sign that the beach is alive. It is not the pool of an urbanization"Grimalt said.
