The Units for the Prevention of Addictive Behaviors unite in the "Contagia't de Prevenció" campaign

Today, June 26, 2020, the "International Day to Combat Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking" is commemorated. This day, celebrated at the proposal of the UN with the aim of reinforcing action and cooperation to achieve a society free of drug use, is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of local prevention of addictive behavior, making visible the work carried out by Community Prevention Units in Addictive Behaviors (UPCCA) of the Valencian Community as key assets of local health, together with families, schools and communities in the fight against addictions. The Valencian Community has 86 UPCCAs, with more than 100 professionals who are experts in the prevention of addictive behavior.

The UN campaign of this year 2020, is developed under the motto Better knowledge for a better cure referring to the fact that drug use has always been mediated by erroneous information, an inconvenience in order to cut the problem. The UPCCAS of the Valencian Community, as competent local services for the development of actions aimed at eliminating or modifying the risk factors associated with drug use or other addictive behaviors, actively work to provide effective information in the population about the risks of consumption. of drugs and the development of addictive behaviors. And to generate capacities and skills that allow people to be reflective and act for the benefit of their own health. In this sense, all UPCCAS fully support the commemoration of this day and apply in a real and effective way the UN motto selected for this year; making the daily effort from the different institutions, in their competences, to achieve the objectives they represent.

To commemorate this June 26, 2020, the UPCCA of the Dénia City Council participates together with the different UPCCA of the Valencian Community, in the campaign Get prevention to inform citizens clearly and closely of the implications and importance of local prevention.

The bell Get Prevention, includes a video made jointly and with a univocal message: The Community Prevention Units in Addictive Behaviors are the professional services and accredited by the Department of Health and Public Health to inform, guide and work with families, schools and communities, especially supporting youth, in order to, in the words of the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres: "prevent drug use and help new generations lead a healthier life and choose their path with strength and resilience".

The UPCCA carry out an intense and varied work in the educational, health, social and community spheres from different professional profiles and at different levels of prevention, developing and coordinating municipal or joint drug plans and other actions in a transversal manner and with a common link: reduce o Avoid the use and / or abuse of drugs and other addictive behaviors, as well as promoting healthy lifestyle habits. The diversity, transversality and breadth of their functions and actions are an indisputable strength of these services. And, ultimately, they want to continue being the instrument to promote the population to become infected by prevention and among all / avoid health problems related to addictions.
