The archaeological wealth of Dénia uncovered and within the reach of the neighbors
On June 15, 16 and 17, homage is paid to archeology at a European level. Thinking of this date, from the Museums and Archeology area of the Dénia City Council, activities have been designed to show citizens the archaeological wealth of the city free of charge. With the title 'Islamic Dénia. Castle and medina, XI-XIII centuries', two activities are offered.
On Saturday 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the archaeologist Silvia Ruiz will hold an open-air conference that will tour the streets of the historic center (Cavallers, Loreto, Major, ronda de les Muralles, de la Mar and Campo) to explain the urban context of the Islamic medina during the 40th, XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries. On the route you will be able to see the archaeological interventions that show the Andalusian architectural vestiges, such as baths, mosques, warehouses or cemeteries. The capacity of the activity is XNUMX people.
On Sunday 18, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., expert guides will lead a visit to the Dénia Castle. The tour will serve to contextualize and explain the different access doors of the enclosures, the albacar, the walls, the Celler del Palau and the citadel, in a journey from the bottom to the top. The guides will explain the construction techniques of the Islamic period, as well as the later reforms and the architectural works carried out in the Dianense monument. The capacity of the activity is also 40 people.
To enjoy both activities, prior registration is required, which can be done calling on the phone. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 13:00 p.m.
