The City Council presents 2021 budgets very marked by the pandemic

The councilor for Doing, Paco Roselló, presented this morning together with the councilor for Urban Planning, Maria Josep Ripoll, and the councilor for Social Welfare, Melani Ivars, what will be the 2021 budgets, in the absence of full approval.

These are budgets that, although higher than those of the previous year (almost 5,4 million more), come heavily marked by the current coronavirus pandemic that it has broken the schemes of the administrations, having to focus its efforts on certain aspects leaving aside areas that are more paralyzed in these times. The City Council this year will have 66.838.254'81 with which it will have to manage the projects already underway and start many others planned for this year.

Among the major changes in these budgets for 2021, there is an increase of 150.000 euros in urban planning for, above all, launch the project for the new sports hall, 742.000 euros for the rehabilitation of the Torrecremada building, the redevelopment of the Glorieta del País Valencià and the streets that surround it, and the completion of the works on the Valgamediós square, Pare Pere street and Major street, the latter three also enjoying Conselleria and county council subsidies.

In addition, the health crisis has forced an increase in investment in IT with an additional 139.350 euros for the purchase of material, computers, the creation of programs and applications and their maintenance. In the same way, the need to keep spaces free of coronavirus have led to an increase of 90.600 euros to the item for cleaning public buildings.

However, the pandemic has also been a savings in areas such as Sports, Culture and Parties, which have seen their games greatly diminished. Culture, which has reduced the number of events scheduled in recent months, will have a budget of 50.000 euros less and Sports 60.000. The decrease in the budget for Parties, on the other hand, reaches 145.000 euros, remaining at 335.000 this 2021.

The Dénia City Council has wanted to highlight that a saving of 120.000 euros is also foreseen in the cost of electricity, as a result of having changed part of the city's lighting for LEDs.

The item for Social Welfare increases again

Once again, one of the most cared for areas in the City Council's budgets is once again the one referring to Social Welfare. "People are at the center of our policies", recalled the councilor of the area, Melani Ivars, after announcing that more than 10% of the 2021 budgets go to social services and equality.

Among the total of the game, Ivars wanted to highlight that there is an increase of 70.000 euros for charity and assistance, which leaves a total of 300.000, and a 10% increase in the budget for home help. In addition, he recalled the local government's commitment to keep canteen aids complementary to those of the Conselleria for "prevent anyone from staying at the gates".

According to Roselló, it is expected that, despite all the aforementioned, this year's expenses will not exceed income, so that the council would have this 2021 with 328.884,52 euros of surplus.

In summary, more than 66 million budgeted to continue investing in remodeling the streets and infrastructure of Diaz, creating the desired "flag that Dénia deserves", continue investing in the social area, in an occupation plan (which will have an item of 100.000) and, among other things, settle the Dénia Ciutat Universitaria project.
