Dénia lives a tourist season of high occupancy despite the crisis

August 26 from 2020 - 10: 56

All forecasts pointed to the fact that this summer the tourist areas would see their visitor numbers fall due to the health crisis, predicting that it would be a bad economic year for the populations that depend on this sector. However, hotels, vacation home renters and, now, the volume of water and garbage consumption point to the opposite. It has been a good summer season, at levels very similar to those of recent years.

It is true that international tourism has fallen, as claimed by the tourist accommodation sector, but this drop has been offset by growth by the national tourist who has chosen our coast to spend an atypical vacation.

The consumption of water and the volume of garbage collection during the summer corroborate this minimal decrease in residents.

Water consumption during the months of July and August amounts to 980.884 liters. During last summer, that of 2019, the equivalent figure was 1.023.266 and the average of recent years, in the summer months, is 1.032.699; which shows that the decrease in consumption in 2020, in the absence of the end of August, has been only 5,02%.

As for garbage collection, another indicator of the amount of population present in Dénia at each time of the year, the July figures represent a minimal drop compared to July 2019: 2.670, this year, and 2.952, the year past. The volume of garbage collected in July in the city has been maintained at around 2.900 tons in the last four years.
