The Department of Participation, Transparency, Cooperation and Democratic Quality, Rosa Pérez Garijo, has sent a letter to the Government Delegation in the Valencian Community to identify the people who concentrated this Sunday in Dénia exhibiting Francoist elements and symbols, as well as others elements considered contrary to democratic memory.

The objective is to collect information on what happened this Sunday in order to determine the facts and possible responsibilities that may arise due to breach of the obligations established in Law 14/2017 on Democratic Memory and for the Coexistence of the Valencian Community.

Article 40 of this law refers to acts carried out in public that involve discrediting, disparaging or humiliating the victims or their families, exalting the military uprising or Franco, or paying tribute to those who supported the military uprising and the dictatorship.

The councilor has stated that "we want to collect all the information to be able to open sanctioning procedures for violation of the Democratic Memory law, which clearly says that Francoist symbols cannot be displayed in our territory."

Pérez Garijo has assured that "we are not going to allow this type of situation to continue to occur in the Community, because it endangers our democracy."

As stated in the letter, the purpose is to obtain information on the concentration, whether it was authorized and, if so, the terms of the same, as well as the person or persons or entities convening it.

In turn, the Department of Democratic Quality has requested information from the Government Delegation in the Valencian Community on whether there is a report made by the State Security Forces and Bodies in relation to the events described, as well as identifications or parts of the people that carried and exhibited the aforementioned symbols.

The incident occurred during the visit of ERC deputy Gabriel Rufián to present his book 'The 15M facha, ideas for a disputed future' in the Auditorium of the Social Center of the town.
