Ainoa Martín, the Dianense player who hung up her boots to catch the whistle

12 December 2018 - 11: 21

Dianense Ainoa Martín Vilar, at 21, chose to hang up her basketball boots to catch the whistle, after being a table assistant. In this way, a brilliant and promising basketball player, who came to play the Junior Spanish Championship in Guadalajara with her colleagues from the Dénia Básquet generation of '97, and with Álex Almela as coach, has become the first woman born in Dénia who is a basketball referee.

Ainoa lives linked to the sport of the basket. After three years in the senior team and collaborating as assistant in different teams of the Dianense club, he made his first foray into the refereeing world by passing the table officer courses and starting to play that role in matches official

This past summer she decided to close her stage as an active player and take this courageous step forward to the federation courses, becoming the first woman in our city to act as referee in competitions organized by the Basketball Federation of the Valencian Community.

Along with the dianense, in the province of Alicante there are five other women who exercise the task of refereeing federated parties, emphasizing that three of them are from the Marina Alta region. Clara Más, from Ondara, who is the most experienced with three seasons of experience, and Laura Caselles, from Xabia, who also debuts this campaign in this function.

I hope they are a great example for many other girls and it is increasingly common to find women in a function called as in all areas of our society to reach equality in order to contribute to the growth of this magnificent sport.
