Ximo Puig denounces the assault on democratic values during the Dénia Festival de les Humanitats

28 October 2022 - 10: 05

The President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig, has defended "sustainability, social justice and dialogue" in the face of the current challenges posed by "the climate emergency, inequality and authoritarianism." This was stated during his speech at the inaugural session of the Festival of the Humanities of Dénia, in which the Minister of Universities has also participated, Joan Subirats.

The president referred to the current social and economic context and, specifically, to the war in Ukraine, inflation or the energy transition, and advocated environmental sustainability, through the promotion of innovation and renewable energies, as well as for undertaking a “just” energy transition to mitigate its effects.

During his speech, the head of the Consell has also made a call to restore equalities between societies, between women and men, and between citizens. Specifically, he has defended the need to have a "solidarity, integrity and united" Europe, as well as to bet on feminism to put an end to the "great political frontier of the XNUMXst century" and achieve "fair and real" progress.

Similarly, in order to deal with inequalities between citizens, he has claimed "social justice" to end "the social fracture that corrodes coexistence and weakens democracy."

On the other hand, he has denounced the current advance of authoritarianism and populism that are producing "the most consistent global assault on democratic values and tolerance since the 30s." In this sense, he has shown his commitment to dialogue and to reaching agreements, especially in economic matters, "to extinguish the bonfire of unrest," he said.

Finally, Ximo Puig thanked the organization of the Festival de les Humanitats since he has assured that it constitutes a forum for debate on essential issues for the future of the Valencian Community.

The Humanitats Festival begins

The Festival de les Humanitats celebrates its first edition in Dénia, between October 27 and 29, and constitutes a multidisciplinary meeting between influential thinkers and experts in economics, neuroscience, medicine, anthropology, philosophy, history, geography, humanistic thought, ethics and culture, among many other scientific and artistic disciplines.

The forum has been structured in a dozen debate sessions on science, technology and humanities to reflect on the concerns of human beings in today's world and on the changes that will occur in the near future. Parallel activities will also be held, such as music and dance shows, workshops and exhibitions.

The one who tested maximum totalitarianism by imposing restrictions, apartheid and promoting poverty and social injustice now speaks of democratic values? Politicians treat crises and difficulties as if they were the responsibility of others, forgetting that it is they, with their actions and mistakes, who cause them. And in each act or campaign they speak so convinced that now they are going to do something good, to continue with exactly the same. Since politics became a profession we have been going downhill.

It is an assault that you do not denounce the state of the asphalt; Ximo.

What great hypocrisy. What democratic values do they have? The only "values" that move them are greed and avarice.
