Vicent Grimalt: «We are going back to the July data, […] but it continues to be a complicated situation»

04 September 2020 - 19: 32

The City Council of Dénia, represented by the mayor Vicent Grimalt, the Councilor for Education, Melani IvarsAnd the Councilor for Health, Cristina Morera, has made this afternoon a live broadcast on Facebook to resolve the doubts of the neighbors facing the beginning of the school year and about the current situation of Dénia against the coronavirus.

You have to adapt to the new normal. It is the strong message of the City Council for the beginning of the course. "We cannot live in a bubble", said Vicent Grimalt when asked about the tourist policy of Dénia and the Valencian Community.

Grimalt has recognized that the greater number of population that has occurred during August has influenced the high cases of infections in recent weeks. However, it also underlines that it is not that the visitors were contagious, but that the lack of individual responsibility, of tourists and neighbors alike, have caused the situation.

In the same way, he has excused the entrepreneurs of the nightlife sector, insisting that they complied with the City Council and the police before the closure of their premises. Grimalt has pointed to social gatherings as the main causes of the outbreaks in Dénia these days. "Be very careful with the parties", the mayor has warned.

He also wanted to be optimistic after the new infection data that have been made public this morning. "We are going back to the July data which was very good", Grimalt has declared, to which he added that "We return to a normality that we had two months ago". Of course, being cautious insisting that "It is still a complicated situation".

What will the course be like in the middle of a pandemic

Before addressing the issue for which this live broadcast has been called, the beginning of the school year, the mayor has advanced that the measures to be taken in each educational center do not depend on the City Council, but are taken by the Ministry.

Once this has been clarified, Grimalt has ensured that the protocols are ready for the return to school, for which he has asked parents to trust both them and the educational centers.

"We cannot avoid that at some point in some center a contagion occurs in a class, because it has been infected at home", has assumed the mayor. However, for that there are some protocols that insist that they deserve the confidence of the neighbors.

Grimalt hopes that the course can start and run normally, and has reassured viewers of the broadcast by recalling that "children are sometimes more obedient than adults".

I totally agree with you Luis. Tourism has brought us the great outbreaks that we are suffering. You could see it coming, seeing how Denia was at night.

Grimalt, the friend of bars and restaurants, other companies and jobs do not exist for him. He says you can't blame tourism, and what if we blame whoever allowed it? him for example ...
