Fifty rescues take place on the beaches of Dénia during the lifeguard season

At the end of the bathing season, the concessionary company in the area of ​​Lifeguarding and Surveillance of beaches takes stock of the season highlighting the promotion of accessibility and awareness activities.

The beaches of Dénia are committed to making available to bathers all the necessary resources to promote integration. For years, services have been provided to ensure that users with reduced mobility can enjoy the beach. The tools that have been used include amphibious chairs and fences, walkers and flotation material; in addition to having qualified personnel.

The organization reports that attendance was higher than expected, exceeding the estimate for the high season (July and August) by 85 assisted baths. In total, the provision of this service in the 2022 season has increased by 12% compared to previous seasons.

The profile most present in this initiative has been men between 70 and 79 years of age. Among women, the most common age of attendees is 60 to 69 years.

Rescue and assist data

The total actions of the lifeguards have been 971 between June and September. Interventions range from jellyfish or rock spiderfish stings and minor injuries (most cases) to bruises or sunstroke (less common). Eulen points out that hospital care has only been required on 32 occasions, being mostly cases of arrhythmia, contusion, fainting, dislocation and sprain. Most first aid assistance is concentrated between 11 a.m. and 14 p.m., with the age range in which most incidents have been attended being between 10 and 19, both in children and in boys.

At the same time, 48 rescues have been carried out on the eight beaches of Dénia, which have occurred mostly between 17:00 p.m. and 19:00 p.m. In the rescues, the most common users, both women and men, are between the ages of 10 and 19. There has also been a large rebound among men between the ages of 40 and 49.

Awareness activities

At the same time, the Dénia City Council, Eulen and the Oceanogràfic Foundation have been proposing initiatives to make the population aware of the importance of caring for the marine ecosystem.

On September 16, schoolchildren from Dénia public schools attended the release of a turtle on the beach of Punta del Raset , in addition to collaborating in cleaning the coast.

In mid-October, the Barriendo mares underwater cleaning day took place, with the collaboration of the Eucrante association. In addition, citizen volunteers carried out a raid along the coasts. At the end of the act, the organization distributed some brooms produced with plastic recovered in past editions and the artist Rafa Cheli inaugurated a sculpture made with scrap metal also from the waste recovered in previous editions.

On the same day, an environmental fair was held to make the marine environment known to the Dianense population in front of the Raset dirt car park.
