The Minister of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, and the Director General of Coasts, Ports and Airports, Marc García Manzana, visited the Port of Dénia this Friday to supervise the dredging works that began this week and whose investment has increased to 1,2 million euros.
Martínez Mus has pointed out that this is an action "long awaited by the port sector, which, after years of requests, has finally materialized." The dredging works, which will cover an area of 135.500 square meters,
squares, will focus on the commercial dock, the intermediate fishing dock, the entrance channel and the mouth.
According to the councillor, it is planned to dredge around 60.000 cubic metres this year, "an essential operation to maintain the safety and activity of the port, whose operation has been seen
compromised due to the time elapsed since the last significant dredging in 2011."
According to Martínez Mus, this is a crucial project to "guarantee adequate depths in these areas, which have been reduced over the years." The current investment "seeks not only to improve safety, but also
reactivate maritime traffic in a vital infrastructure for the region." He also recalled that the Ministry has all the necessary permits to carry out the dredging in a manner that is respectful of the environment.
The last major dredging was carried out in 2011, when 29.800 cubic metres of sediment were removed, while in 2016 a smaller dredging operation was carried out, involving 6.500 cubic metres in the passenger dock.
Access to the Moll de la Pansa
The minister also recalled the works being carried out on the access road to the Moll de la Pansa in the port of Dénia "to speed up traffic, especially in summer, when there is a large influx of passengers, and thus avoid the traffic jams that occur."
These works will include the widening of the access road from three to four lanes; the painting of a median strip; the creation of pedestrian routes at least two metres wide; pedestrian level crossings; urban bollards on the pavement to improve pedestrian safety; as well as the renovation of the lighting network and the reinforcement of signage. The works have an investment of 573.000 euros.
With these actions, and according to Martínez Mus, "the Ministry hopes not only to improve the infrastructure of the Port of Dénia, but also to contribute to the economic development of the area and to the satisfaction of the citizens and tourists who pass through it."
