Two tons of garbage are extracted from the bottom of the port of Dénia

May 17 from 2022 - 13: 05

Dénia City Council, the city's Fishermen's Association and the Coast Guard Service organized the XNUMXnd Marine Cleanup Conference "Symbiosis for the environment" at the beginning of May. Initiative that was successfully developed last weekend removing two tons of waste almost entirely from the Dianense port funds.

The activity was carried out thanks to the collaboration of more than fifty volunteers from the partner companies, Indra-Minsait and Adidas, from different parts of the peninsula. The rest of the percentage of garbage that was removed belonged to the search that was also carried out on the north jetty.

waste of all kinds

During the morning of Saturday, the diving volunteers made two dives in the fishing port of Dénia, in which they extracted a large amount of waste of all kinds: supermarket shopping carts, bicycles, scooters, some tires, etc.

Due to the large amount of waste found on Saturday, Sunday began with a dive in the same dock, to extract what had been located the day before and that, due to lack of time, had not been removed.

Responsible funding

The second and last dive was carried out in the north outer area of the port, where a large number of boats anchor daily, in season. Divers were pleasantly surprised at how clean the seabed was and were able to enjoy the crystal clear waters and rich underwater life in the area. The state of these seabeds, in which no residue was found, is a sign that recreational boating in our city, which usually anchors in this area, is very aware of the conservation of the marine environment.

The Dénia City Council is grateful for the altruistic work carried out by the Indra and Adidas volunteers, and the involvement of the Fishermen's Association. In particular, the work of his boss, Juan Antonio Sepulcre, who in the two days has been the first to arrive and the last to leave, making it possible for logistics to work perfectly at all times. The Dénia Red Cross has also collaborated in the event, preventively moving a crew and a rescue boat during the two days.

Thanks to the selfless collaboration of the local companies Industrias Aura and Bottle Recycling, the collected waste will be recycled and turned into cleaning utensils that will be given to the participants in the next edition of the clean-up day "Per a net sea" to be held in September.

As I am glad to see that even if it is a short day, the Denia city council is interested in the port area being clean even once a year, let alone not at all. Today walking through the hippie area, reaching the corner that turns towards Balearia, I have seen that this exhaustive cleaning of the background has been of no use. Along the promenade there are bottles, cans, plastics, food boxes and worst of all, a layer of disgusting brown grease that covers the water and makes it impossible to see the bottom. Where is the port watch? Who ensures that users do not throw oil, gasoline, waste in general into the sea, wash motorcycles and boats with detergent that is diluted in the water. Even the people who walk throw rubbish. It is a shame the state in which that area is. Those responsible for that area go over the top that the water is clean, they are only interested in the fact that there are boats and motorcycles that pay to be there, that is, then the false morality appears of sustainability and ecology. To which everyone is dedicated to looking good and has not put in place measures that are really reflected in the recovery and conservation of the marine environment.
