Who was Patricio Ferrándiz?

20 September 2010 - 22: 48

It started with a series of small reviews on dianenses names of famous people that eventually gave name to one of the city streets.

A thousand times we have passed through this street, one of the longest in Dénia, a backbone that crosses the city from the inner end to the sea, and surely more than once and twice we have asked ourselves ... who was Patricio Ferrándiz?

Patricio Ferrándiz Monerris was, as the plaque that gives the street's name, the urban planner who designed the widening of the city's outer walls and directed part of the works.

He born in Altea on January 16 1824. His father was the architect Jose Ferrandiz Grau and his mother Josefa Monerris Bataller. Patricio Ferrándiz was foreman on numerous occasions and political activist.

His innovative zeal led him to propose to the City Council building a seafood hatchery in the vicinity of the Acequia del Saladar, although his liberal past do not finally was granted the license.

He married twice, first with Mariana Mulet Lattur and the second Pascuala Pons Cervera, and twice enviudó.

He was councilman in 1873, 1873, 1903 to 1905 and and proposed several projects that were not carried out. He died on August 11 1911 to 87 years of enterocolitis Pedro Esteve street 5.
