The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, has expressed its displeasure on social media over the decision of the Generalitat to remove the stands differentiated for tourist municipalities at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), which is being held these days in Madrid. Cities such as Dénia, Gandia, Cullera, Xàbia, Teulada-Moraira and Calp do not have an independent space within the Valencian Community stand this year, which Grimalt considers a way of making these tourist destinations invisible, despite the achievements they have attained in terms of promotion and distinctions in the sector.
In his post, the mayor has assured that the lack of public visibility does not prevent those responsible for the municipality's tourism sector from continuing to hold meetings with professionals and collect the awards that Dénia tourism has obtained thanks to local management. Grimalt criticised what he called "absurd centralism" in the management of the event, denouncing that this measure seeks to appropriate the achievements of local governments in favour of a Generalitat "in such need of a good image makeover", without recognising the efforts of municipal administrations.
Through his post on social media, Grimalt has attached a photograph with the mayors of other municipalities affected by this situation and with the Minister of Science and Innovation, Diana Morant Ripoll, who has shown her support for the criticism and shared the concern of those involved in the face of what they consider a "disregard" of tourist towns.
And who pays for the stand? And who pays for the infrastructure?
Well, it's very easy for Mr. Grimalt to set up his own stand with staff, etc., etc., and for the City Council to pay for it.
