Podem Dénia will demand the demolition of El Greco to form a government

February 13 from 2023 - 10: 57

The ghost urbanization El Greco, located in Lloma del Castanyar, within the Montgó Natural Park, is a paradigmatic example of environmental management in Dénia. The urbanization has had a firm demolition order for more than 15 years, that is, since 2008. However, successive municipal corporations have avoided compliance.

For Juanjo Nieves, candidate for Podem to the mayor's office of Dénia, this inaction shows that «the current absolute majority has also been of little use to the environment. Our training is committed to complying with the judicial decision on this environment, within a general approach to restoring ecosystems damaged by human action. Both the European Union, which is finalizing a nature restoration regulation, and the United Nations, which has inaugurated its decade of ecosystem restoration, are committed to favoring the recovery of those ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving those that still still intact. Nieves maintains that if his formation is necessary to form the local government, one of the conditions will be to budget for the demolition of this urban aberration within the first year of the legislature and restore the environment to return it to its original state as a natural park. Likewise, a study will be carried out to analyze the areas of the municipal area that are susceptible to natural restoration and that in this way will contribute to eliminating CO2 and preserving biodiversity.

Ecological restoration of the urban environment

For the number 2 of the municipal candidacy, Cristina Molinillo, the urgency of climate change forces all administrations to also act in the urban environment to mitigate its impact. As an example of necessary actions in the urban area, she cites the asphalt area that is used as paid parking in the blue zone behind the Hotel Costa Blanca and in front of the train station. «50 meters away is the Balearia Port parking lot with much more capacity, while the parking lot next to the music band should become a green area with dirt, which would relieve the heat accumulated by the asphalt, improve air quality and give "more space for neighbors in the area." Molinillo believes that it is also necessary to make it easier for neighborhood communities to plant vegetation on balconies, terraces, attics and facades to make a city more friendly and attractive, as well as extend to other areas and double the size of the plots dedicated to urban gardens.

Can we demand? Well, let them pay out of their pockets for the demolition of that nonsense that was the construction of El Greco. How easy it is to demand things while others pay in this case the citizens. Is that how they start? Well, how bad we are….
