Improves the unemployment rate compared to 2018

January 02 from 2020 - 13: 40

The unemployment rate in the Marina Alta It stood at 3% in the 2019rd quarter of 15,27, 1 percentage point below the regional average and almost 3 points below that of the province of Alicante. The positive downward trend in this indicator continues, which once again shows an improvement with respect to the same period of the previous year -15,38%-.

If we observe the behavior in each of the zones - coastal, intermediate and interior - of the region, the data offers different readings: in the coastal area, even having a downward trend, the characteristic sawtooth predominant is reflected in a seasonal labor market like the one we suffer in this area. In the intermediate zone, this temporality is softened, so there is not so much difference between the summer months and winter months. Meanwhile, in the interior area of the region there is a stagnation in the positive trend of recent years, and since early 2018, the trend has been reversed, reaching the unemployment rate in this area at 20,63% at present.

Finally, if we analyze this indicator by the three major age groups (under 25 years old, between 25 and 44 years old, and over 44 years old), we can see how the precarious labor market typical of our summer season is supplied by the youngest, since it is in this age group where the characteristic sawtooth is more pronounced. Of course, if we compare the inter-annual historical data, young people under 25 are the ones who have reduced their unemployment rate the most; If we compare the data of the 3rd quarter of 2014 with that of this year, the youth unemployment rate (up to 25 years) has been reduced by more than 16 percentage points (34,51% versus 18,19%), while in the other age groups, the difference is -9 points.
