More than a hundred students participate in the simulation of the United Nations Conference at Lady Elizabeth School

Lady Elizabeth School held a simulation of the United Nations conference, where 151 students participated, under the motto 'Together we can make a difference'.

The meeting began last Thursday 1 in March and lasted until the 3 day, Saturday. Students from Louisiana (USA), Mexico, Dubai and ISP from all over Spain were separated into 7 committees representing a country and discussing different topics that would be discussed at the United Nations (UN) Conference.

It was an event in which the students worked under the official rules of the Model United Nations. Delegates discussed and debated issues such as Protection of LGBT rights in Russia, Dnuclearization of the DPRK and Solution of the economic and political crisis in Venezuela.

The Opening Ceremony took place in the House of Culture of Calpe and consisted of the presentation of the delegates' flags, formal opening speeches by Nick Rugg (Regional Director of Europe representing The International Schools Partnership) and the keynote speaker - Janneke Feenstra who was a former student from the Netherlands and attended school from 2006 -2012. The General Secretary of the Conference, Maria Alonso, declared the Conference open.

Alonso stressed that participating in the Model United Nations is really valuable for students for their future education. For his part, Richard Wijeratne, Director of the Lady Elizabeth College also commented about the MUN that this union shows a commitment to international education and the debate that is at the heart of the International Schools Partnership group.

The MUN conferences were held in English, but this call for future editions is open to any school that wants to send a delegation.
